raayasa Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I doubt why ashwin opened the innings 1. maybe due to low confidence of Vijay 2. dhoni tactic to use ashiwn as pinch hitter?
superstar Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Check Fleming's interview in iplt20.com I however believe it may be a case of spot fixing. Opened in an important game. The commentator mentioned his highest in IPL is 11. He got out for 11. Too many co-incidences.

vvvslaxman Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Based on Fleming post match interview, Dhoni has been contemplating this move for a while. They wanted quick 20 from him. Seeing how others batted he thought that gamble paid off.
fineleg Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Why Ashwin opened? Just the age-old pinch-hitter strategy. I suppose CSK run-rate in first 6-8 overs has been on the "slow" side with Hussey and Vijay. Prolly trying the old pinch hitter approach to score 50-1 or 60-2 in 6 overs. Previously a Wasim Akram or Irfan Pathan may have been used in International matches. Who are the famous "pinch hitters" in Intl cricket who opened in limited overs?
Ezilkannan Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Dhoni was experimenting with KKR. He always likes to play/troll with the opposition by weird tactics. Also one more reason could be that they could have more power down the order even if they had lost 6/7 wickets.
philcric Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 In a low scoring game where the pitch is assisting spinners it does make sense to send one of your lower order batsman to go score a quick 15-20 against the new ball. But with that CSK batting line-up with 8 proper batsmen and Morris, Ashwin at 9,10 ... it did seem very strange for Ashwin to open. I mean they could have as well asked Vijay to slog 15-20 runs without worrying about getting out. Or send Bravo or Jaddu to open if they really wanted a biffer at the top.
FischerTal Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 murali vijay couldnt handle the phaaast pace of balaji
ganeshran Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Master race batting is so good, we can win with tailenders as well :csk:
BeautifulGame Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 One of my friends mentioned this. Since Ashwin himself is a mystery spinner and has grown up quite a few mystery spinners in his chennai early days perhaps Dhoni and Fleming thought he can read and survive Narine and Senanayake better than most
The Dark Horse Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 TBH Ashwin is a better batsman than that hack Yuppo
