He bats 7 or 8 when everybody scores runs and are in a good position and when a platform has been built. When the team is down and are losing wickets then he comes in early and scores a 30 or 40. He still contributes in T20I iirc his highest score is a very quick 48*.

Give him more matches and he will perform.
