Average of 40, SR of 113 - not too bad considering his batting position.

Until he hit that six against Lee i was on the edge of the seat.

I will never judge our ODi batsmen based on how they do against new ball in slightly helpful conditions. That too first ball , 2nd ball dismissals. Can happen to the best of the players as every batsman is vulnerable at that point. Hussey did mention ball was holding a bit. In this case Raina played a touch early which caused the leading edge. He sure has some weaknesses that won't help him as a Test player . But definitely a player with balls in crunch situations in ODIs.

vvvslaxman Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 that was a good innings but again it was a very slow wicket. nobody doubts his pressure handling ability.hes very good there Against brand new cherry you need sound technique to survive. But today his problem was more shot selection than inability. On pitches where ball is stopping a bit, playing straight atleast in the beginning would be more suited. He tried to turn the ball around.
Sidhoni Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 I am one myself.but he surely is better batsman than Raina Kohli bats in PP overs with the hard new ball coming on to the bat nicely. Raina on the other hand always comes in pressure situations and finishes the match for us more often than not. You can't compare a no.3 with a no.6/7.
G_B_ Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Kohli bats in PP overs with the hard new ball coming on to the bat nicely. Raina on the other hand always comes in pressure situations and finishes the match for us more often than not. You can't compare a no.3 with a no.6/7. works both ways really Kohli faces the new ball many times on pitches with seam and swing in them. Raina faces the older ball.
SLICKR392 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I am one myself.but he surely is better batsman than Raina In ODIs, they both play a different role. If it wasn't for Raina we would have probably lost the Eng ODI series as well. Players like GG and Kohli set the platform, Yuvi usually ups the RR and Raina-Dhoni finishes it. Everyone are good at their own roles but Kohli is better than him at oversees. At SC, I wouldn't say Kohli is better than Raina. They both are equally good at what they do.
