I don't expect India to do very well in this tournament anyway. The initial 30-man probable list was hardly great so you could quibble with anything the selectors do from there. In reality I think they've done okay. Apart from the usual blind spots in mixing formats in regard to Mooli Vijay and Rohit. Yuvraj's is a bold decision, but he is not fit at all and relying on big shots more than ever to score his runs. The bowling is mostly mediocre and I would only expect BK to consistently perform.

Yes, we heard the same argument when he was picked for the Aussie test series. Let's just agree that these selectors seem to have a better idea of whom to pick than the experts on ICF.

BTW Shikar Dhawan was called a hack and a cowlasher by the experts here before he was picked for the Aussie test series and now he is the wonder boy of Indian cricket.

The problem is you have benched him for nearly 15-18 months and then for a tournament like CT Vijay gets picked who hasn't even played ODIs in 2 years. Rahane did well in England last time in the chances he got and should have been preferred ahead of Vijay for sure.

Now M VIjay is going to be on the bench for a while. I think KKD will open.

Even though there are some unfair omissions i don't think they left out some great legendary players (we don't have one in the first place). No matter what line up we pick it is going to be experimental.

In ODIs yuvi and gambhir are legends. They havn't been in great form but them getting dropped in favour of rohit vijay jadeja and kartik is very questionable. Also the pujara not getting picked despite his high list a average and good test form is also very bizzare. This is not a great selection.

According to Cricinfo, Pujara is injured. Seems to be a pretty good squad under the circumstances the likely XI Dhawan KKD - seems to have sorted out his technique and has opened in the past Kohli Rohit Dhoni Raina Jadeja Ashwin BK Ishant Yadav Reserves Pathan - a good player for English conditions. Like Gambhir, he too is a big match player [T20 WC final] Mishra - ashwin isn't as all conquering as some think. There needs to be someone to keep him on his toes. Plus wrist spinners have done well in England in the past Vinay Kumar - slightly surprising selection. A little harsh on Shami Ahmed, but Vinay is good at using his variations, and is more experienced. Vijay - Clearly, like Rohit Sharma he is perceived by the selectors to possess the x factor to succeed at the international level. With the 2 new balls rule in ODIs you need a proper opener in reserve. Gambhir could've been given a go but what message would it send? has he sorted his habit of dabbing at balls outside the off stump? Overall I think the selectors have chosen a balanced squad, which should do better than most expect. More importantly, there is a continuity to the selection choices made by this panel - over the last few months a definitive message has been sent to senior players like Sehwag, Gambhir, Zak, Yuvraj and Bhajji. The selectors are clearly looking ahead to the 2015 word cup.
