The BCCI has now appointed a three-member panel to probe complaints against Gurunath Meiyappan, Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals owners. But in a major surprise the board has two independent members on the panel even as BCCI chief N Srinivasan had indicated there would be only one independent member in his press conference in Kolkata on Sunday

The three members of the commission are Justice T Jayaram Chouta, a former judge of the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu High Courts, Justice R Balasubramanian, former judge of the Tamil Nadu High Court and board secretary Sanjay Jagdale

MUMBAI: The Mumbai crime branch is likely to question Harbhajan Singh and three players from Chennai Super Kings who were close to Gurunath Meiyappan to know if he had tried to influence them. Police want to record the players' statements to ascertain if Meiyappan and Vindu Dara Singh were into match-fixing. Harbhajan plays for Mumbai Indians and Meiyappan had told the police that Vindu had asked him to get close to Harbhajan with the intention of cultivating him for future matches

Officials said that Vindu and Meiyappan have both denied Aggarwal's role in the scandal but police want to know more about the back-to-back calls between him and absconding bookies Sanjay Jaipur, Pawan Jaipur and Chandresh alias Jupiter. Several players also used to visit Aggarwal's Chennai hotel often, police said. Aggarwal is a close friend of Meiyappan. On Tuesday, a Mumbai crime branch team had gone to serve summons on Aggarwal but returned after learning that the Chennai police wanted to question him on Thursday. "We have enough reasons to question him in regard to betting. We will be issuing fresh summons asking him to appear on May 31," said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime).

Kris Srikkanth is correct. Cricketers should just focus on the field and let the investigation continue without the need for their own opinion. The media themselves make it difficult as anything said would only increase pressure and speculation as rightly pointed.

Mumbai/New Delhi: 10:05 am: Arrested actor Vindoo Dara Singh has admitted that he met pacer S Sreesanth, according to the Mumbai Police sources. As part of the ongoing probe into the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal, sources, say, Vindoo Dara Singh has said that met the Kerala pacer on May 14 just before his arrest, at the actor's Juhu residence. Bookie Pawan Jaipur, also wanted in the case, was also present during the meeting. While Vindoo has admitted that he was in touch with Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur, the Mumbai Police has now recovered mobile phones of the Jaipur brothers from Vindoo's Juhu residence.

Two more bookies have been arrested by the Delhi Police in the IPL spot-fixing case taking the total number of those arrested to 24 so far. One of the arrested, Vicky Chowdhury, who is a bouncer with a South Delhi nightclub, had arranged a meeting between a bookie and Ajit Chandila. Sources say Vicky had arranged a meeting between Chandila and some bookies in which he was asked to predict the outcome of a match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 12. Chandila had predicted KKR would win, which it eventually did. The other bookie arrested has been identified as Nitin Jain.

I am not sure why this is not a slam dunk case. If the police claims to have a mountain of evidence, where is it? Why not present it and throw the books at these three. Then again, with Indian police I have my doubts on their ability and intentions.
