His designation according to his Verified Twitter Handle, CSK Website and CSK's Wikipedia entry (all of which were edited and his name removed around 5.30 PM yesterday) showed him as team Principal of CSK. Only the owners were allowed inside the dugout and he was regularly seen inside the dugout in his capacity as owner. Anyways, even if he is not the owner, nobody can deny that since Srini became BCCI Prez, Gurunath was the face of CSK and the head of the top management in his capacity of Team principal. The rule regarding the scrapping of a franchise applies to ALL members of the top management and despite the CSK management's amateurish attempts to remove all traces of him ever being associated with CSK, everyone knows that he was involved.

Anyways, this doesn't have anything to do with being a MI fan or CSK fan or w/e. The rot is way bigger than what we thought possible. Best thing that can happen is an all round catharsis. Maybe the IPL will be stronger cleaner next season. At this point in time I couldn't care less who wins. I don't think I'd be happy in the least of a MI victory. If the IPL management have any iota of shame left, they should stop the tournament till the Police have finished the bulk of their investigation.

CSK is owned by India Cements the company apparently, not by any individual or group of individuals.

Because, being privy to privileged information gives him and his bets an unfair advantage in the market. By that logic it also implies that anyone who uses the owner to gain access to privileged information falls within the same infringement. And this person is also someone who performs owner-related tasks in public.

If owner of a team in any of the professional leagues here in the states was found either to fix games or bet on pre-determined outcomes, his team would face disastrous consequences. I hope there's at least some level of penalty imposed on CSK. I am guessing it will be mostly financial, but may include some missed games as well.

For instance, it is not Neeta Ambani who owns Mumbai Indians, it is owned by the Reliance group of industries. Gurunath Meiyappan's wife ( Srini's daughter) is the MD of India Cements. In some cases ( especially those relating to insider trading) even a spouse or a close family member of the accused being in a position of power is at times enough to force resignation. All that aside, Gurunath was allegedly the only one present during the auctions. Pretty high a responsibility if you ask me, especially as he isn't any one calling the shots as you claim. The thing is, he was privy to a lot of stuff that was going on in and around the team and hence betting from his end has undue advantage over the others. Edit: Prakat already mentioned that.
