Mallika clearly states why India is regressive and why she is progressive and her definition of those terms. Now merely because the final conclusions might be same doesn't equate her opinion to your or mine. Mate, I would like to know how she defines progressiveness. Her definition probably centres around the creative liberties and moral codes that are imposed on actors/actresses in Indian cinema. From what I gather, her selling point is that she showed a bit of skin when everyone else was doing PG - 13 movies. According to her, that makes her bold and courageous. I do not agree with that definition but whatever, to each his own.

Keep aside the fact that she may have uttered a half-truth ( which again, is very highly debatable), and scrutinize the context in which those comments were made. It was an interview about her upcoming movie, and based on whatever I've seen on YouTube or read in the e-media, she wasn't probed for her opinion on the state of women in India. She went down that route without any preamble, it seemed very premeditated, and made sweeping statements. It was shameless self flagellation solely for the purpose of staying relevant, and controversially contrarian. And staying relevant is something Bollywoodwalas are good at. Let me give you an example: On one of the threads that you open, say on some programming language, if I were to post in bold red with font size 50 " Sun rises in the East" , it is the truth. The absolute truth, unlike Mallika's 'truth' which is very debatable here. Would that make it right, though? It would just be a cheap ploy to get attention. It was no different here, and I'm afraid Mallika Sherawat has already succeeded. And using a social ill to score some brownie ( no pun intended) points among the gora crowd is a very despicable thing to do.

maniac Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Why are all these Talentless hacks like Mallika,Sonam Kapoor etc,invited to Cannes in the first place -It's sad if anyone thinks that these chicks represent Indian Film industry which is already a subject of ridicule leave alone give opinions about Social evils in India Aishwarya despite being a talentless hack herself atleast has built up a decent amount of filmography atleast quantitatively speaking.

My views has always been that those who excessively use the words 'I' or 'mine' or 'me/my' are likely to be egoistic self centered maniacs. That's what I feel as I have read the same in many books.
