Detonator Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 For 17-year-old Nidhi Pandey, listening to music on her earphones turned fatal after she was was run over by a private bus at Dadar TT circle. She was crossing the road while her earphones were plugged in. Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred at 10 am near Dadar TT circle when the teenager, a resident of Dosti Daffodil in Antop Hill area of Wadala (East), was crossing the road on the southbound stretch of Dr BR Ambedkar Road. Nidhi was returning home from the gym where she would go for a workout. A family friend who reached the spot told this newspaper that Pandey was run over on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road at around 10am, but was not rushed to hospital immediately. “I got there soon after I received a call from Nidhi’s mother, only to find her lying on the road,†said Gurjit Singh, a family friend whose office is near the accident site, and who reached there a few minutes after the accident. A person from the gym the victim was coming out from when the accident occurred corroborated Singh’s version. “The girl was lying [on the road] for a long time before she was rushed to the hospital,†said a woman from the gym. “We were told about the accident after some time by a few witnesses,†she said. Nidhi, who had just cleared her HSC exams from RA Podar College, was hit by a private bus on its way into the city from Ahmednagar. A theatre group had hired the bus. According to eyewitnesses present at the spot, motorists informed the police about the accident but none of them bothered to rush Nidhi to the hospital. Nidhi Pandey, 17, was still celebrating her score of 86.97% in her Std XII board exams. But, it was short-lived. Nidhi is the eldest of the four siblings. Her mother, Meenu, runs the family business of wine shops after her father passed away five years ago. It was only after the Matunga police arrived that she was taken to Sion Hospital. However, she was declared 'brought dead'. "Nidhi was declared dead on arrival as she had succumbed to her grievous head and face injuries," said a doctor on duty at the hospital. The driver Harishchandra Aargade, 53, was roughed up by the locals and handed over to the police. Meanwhile, officials from the Matunga police arrested Harishchandra Argade, the driver of the bus, for causing death due to negligence. "We will produce him in court on Tuesday," said Sub-Inspector Manisha Murumkar, Matunga police station. He told the police that he had tried to save the girl by steering away, but did not succeed. Concerns have been raised on why motorists did not rush the girl to the nearest hospital. The police stated their van reached the site soon and took Pandey to hospital. “The police reached within a few minutes. It is a busy road and our team got there quickly and took her to hospital,†said a police official requesting anonymity. A pall of gloom descended at Dosti Daffodil in Antop Hill area where Pandey lived. Her friends refuted the theory that she had earphones on. “How can someone claim she was wearing an earphone?†asked Singh. He also debunked police’s claim and stated it was the locals who took Pandey to hospital. The Matunga police have booked Aargade under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life of others) and 304 A (causing death by negligence).

Double lanes are turned into single lanes due to encroaching illegal shops, parking, loading, idoit pedestrians. moronic pedestrians walking on the road despite having a footpath. no existence of traffic signals, no overbidge or subway (underground tunnel) for pedestrians to cross busy roads. retarded traffic police officers who have no clue how to control traffic. retard herders bringing their entire village livestock on the National Highway!!! and of course there too many people behind the wheel who just haven't got a clue about driving a car and unware of the surroundings whilst driving, can't use side mirrors, rear mirror, signals to turn left or right, can't deduce how a roundabout works, unable to overtake properly, etc.
