King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ashwin is a better opener than Pathan. Agree 100% But he should not open either. Call me old fashioned but batsman shoould open the innings and have top 6 batting spots:--D What next?? Raina should open the bowling for India!!! ICF think tank is having an off day!!
I6MTW Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ashwin is a batsmen. In fact he started his career as an opening batsmen.
Lord Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Where are we? Back in the 90s. Crapthan ia a poor bat, I really dont see how it helps matters having a makeshift batsman open up top and get out for low scores day in day out. Crpathan is rubbish batsman, very over rated, wields it like an axe. Should not even be in team as a bowler, let alone opening bat. They want craptahn to open batting and axe Kohli. Worlds gone mad dude its only about Vijay v/s Pathan? which part of that hard to compehend? Pathan maybe poor opening option but not as if Murali Vijay is established or making runs in ODIs.Tests dont matter.he struggles to even rotate strike.he wont get big scores too Irfan is a bonus batsman.can get us to quick start if he fires,if he doesnt, not too much is lost anyway.atleast he wont waste too many balls as for his bowling, his record in both England and CT tournaments is very good.was in good form before getting injured too.IPL performances can only mean that much
Lord Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ashwin is a better opener than Pathan. on what basis?how many times has he opened in any cricket?:hmmm:
maniac Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ashwin is a batsmen. In fact he started his career as an opening batsmen. Doesnt mean he has been selected in the squad to open in English conditions...We have 3 openers and they should be rotated accordingly...Vijay,Dhawan and Rohit depending on who is in form
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Ashwin is a batsmen. In fact he started his career as an opening batsmen. Now he is not. developing all rounder. But not a batsman. He is a bowler and thats why got picked. Its like saying KP is a bowler as he started his carrer as spinner but later became batsman(true). Yes Ashwin started as opener in junior cricket. But he in 2013 he is a bowler and not international class opening bat
I6MTW Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Rohit is a MO. Just because he has opened once doesn't mean he's a specialized opener. Plus Ashwin is strong against pace. He can play pace well. It's against spin he struggled.
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 dude its only about Vijay v/s Pathan? which part of that hard to compehend? To even mention that a bowler should open the batting means you are very confused and indulging in fuzzy thinking

Just what we need
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 But he can bat and has exp in opening. Open with Yadav, used to open in street cricket. Plus he will have a slog and give it a go. If gets out nothing lost as any runs will be just a bonus. Put ishant at 3 as well for same reasons. Then we open bowling with Vijay as he may sneak in some cheap overs and if gets slogged for a few nothing lost as just take him off
maniac Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Sehwag and Gambhir who were our best opening combo in ages were given an extended run even when they were out of form(they kinda earned it) but once they were discarded it will be foolish to go back to them almost immediately without giving a decent run to a new set of openers especially after they have had success recently. I would say Stick with Vijay and Dhawan or even Rohit and Dhawan after his good performance against England as an opener.
Lord Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 What bit do you not get that pathan is not good enough to open the batting in any form of cricket for INDIA!!! To even mention that a bowler should open the batting means you are very confused and indulging in fuzzy thinking so you prefer Vijay?despite his pathetic record and wasting balls? okay I'll prefer Pathan as he can slog n gives us extra bowling option I guess we can agree to disagree
Lord Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 yeah great 1 down after 2 overs all the time. Just what we need isnt that happening anyway with Vijay?
I6MTW Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Open with Yadav, used to open in street cricket. Plus he will have a slog and give it a go. If gets out nothing lost as any runs will be just a bonus. Put ishant at 3 as well for same reasons. Then we open bowling with Vijay as he may sneak in some cheap overs and if gets slogged for a few nothing lost as just take him off But the thing is Ashwin is a technical Batsmen. He doesn't slog. He is perfect for not throwing his wicket.
maniac Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 isnt that happening anyway with Vijay? TBF Warmups dont count unless you want to count his IPL performance
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 so you prefer Vijay?despite his pathetic record and wasting balls? okay I'll prefer Pathan as he can slog n gives us extra bowling option I guess we can agree to disagree Well if you want vijay dropped fine. But to bring crapthan in to replace him as opener is insane and is were you start to lose it
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 But the thing is Ashwin is a technical Batsmen. He doesn't slog. He is perfect for not throwing his wicket. sounds like a test opener.:giggle:
King Tendulkar Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 We can open with Ashwin and Crapthan!! Jai Hind
