Laaloo Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- At least six people are dead and several more injured after a gunman, who may not have been acting alone, went on a shooting spree through the streets of Santa Monica, the beachside town that connects the Pacific Ocean to Los Angeles. One shooter, who then fled to Santa Monica College, was shot and killed by police. Authorities have also taken another suspect into custody. The rampage started at 2036 Yorkshire Ave. in the eastern portion of Santa Monica, where fire officials responded to a call at 11:52 a.m. PT. A house was on fire when firefighters arrived. The first responders also noticed "shots fired," said Chief Scott Ferguson during a news conference. Inside they found multiple victims, two of whom were dead. From that point, police received reports of a carjacking and random shootings as the suspect or suspects moved westward down Pico Boulevard, a busy artery that connects Santa Monica to Los Angeles. One victim was shot near Pico and Cloverfield, two near Pico and 19th and yet another near 19th and Pearl, an intersection near the campus of Santa Monica College. At that point, campus police exchanged gunfire with a single shooter, who was dressed in black and carrying what's believed to have been an AR-15, semiautomatic rifle, police said. The suspect ran onto the school's campus, where he shot a woman who later died, before fleeing into the library. Several witnesses said they saw a broad-shouldered man, approximately 6 feet tall, walking casually inside the building with the rifle at his side. "I'm a huge gun advocate; I've been around guns all my life, I knew exactly what was happening," Brett Holzhauer, a 19-year-old student, told Yahoo News at the scene. "I ran to my stuff, packed it up as fast as I could and dove into a study room." Police followed the suspect inside the building, where they fired upon and ultimately killed him. No police officers were injured. Holzhauer said he hid in the study room for 35 minutes, until police arrived and evacuated the building. "I saw hundreds of rounds of ammunition in the lobby of the library," Holzhauer said. "I saw shattered glass. I saw blood all down the stairs of the main entrance to the lobby, and as I was walking out I saw a dead body." Ava Rezai, 20, hid inside a room in library after hearing shots. "I was just praying, just hoping that I could go home," Rezai told Yahoo News. Three women were taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. According to Dr. Marshall Morgan, chief of emergency medicine, one died, another was in surgery and a third was in serious condition. Three other women went to UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica with minor injuries. The rampage played out on a morning when President Obama was across town for a fundraiser. Police officials described the gunman as a white male, 25 to 30 years old and wearing a bulletproof vest. They have taken another person of interest into custody, according to Santa Monica Police spokeswoman Jacqueline Seabrooks at the news conference. "We are not convinced 100 percent that the suspect who was killed operated in solo or a lone capacity," Seabrooks said. Police were adamant that this was not a "campus shooting" but rather a series of shootings that ended up at a school. They have not determined the motive for the shootings, but Seabrooks said the incident on Yorkshire "appears not to be [random]." http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/gunman-kills-six-santa-monica-shooting-spree-then-003443452.html This country has a huge problem. you never know which idiot any given day will go on a killing spree with a gun
DomainK Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 But...but....guns don't kill. Guns = fundamental constitutional right.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Roads were blocked a couple of miles from my college which is around SMC.....Pearl street is a common route for me though the route I take is a good 13 blocks away from where the incident took place......Number of choppers flew over my place......definitely got something to do with Obama being in town today.....even though California is the land of the liberals.....there is significant hate for him......good thing I didn't have college today and I was in downtown on my way to the baseball game......
jalebi_bhai Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 But...but....guns don't kill. Guns = fundamental constitutional right. In Los Angeles at least......there are a lot of areas that are simply not safe...... walking alone in South Central is pretty much like a death wish.......you do need some serious protection for yourself here.....security officials can also act like petty scum in many parts....

You are so close to the location! Every time such crimes happen people make lot of noise against gun culture, within a month everything will be forgotten. RIP the victims

Every time such crimes happen people make lot of noise against gun culture, within a month everything will be forgotten. RIP the victims Yep.....RIP to the victims...... No place in the world is absolutely safe......the best I can do is be very careful.....btw, the killer was a white guy......have the details of his personal life been bandied about it every news channel yet??

Ridiculous reasoning. Why does the everyday person feel they need a gun? Not just any old gun, these mofos are able to buy sub machine guns with high powered cartridges without any dramas. They just don't learn, do they? Keep repeating the same ****ing mistakes over and over again.

Cause many pars in the US are not safe.......entire states like Michigan, Georgia and states in the South and Mid-West can be extremely dangerous.......I agree with you on the need for gun ownership laws to be way more stringent.......but If you are a wealthy person in the US.......you need serious security to stay safe.......I still stand by my point about irresponsible people being more at fault.....if not guns......people would and do find other ways to harm others......
Clarke Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 People were being killed in droves way before guns were invented.......let's stop selling knives and forks while we are at it.....guns alone don't kill......irresponsibility of people causes more deaths........ That's the most moronic argument put forward by the gun fanatics. Fact I: Knives/Forks have a primary purpose in the culinary aspect. The fact that they're rarely used for violent reasons is unfortunate but in no ways requires as much regulation. Guns outside of hunting, whether for offensive or defensive purposes, have a very basic role: KILLING people or maybe in case of law enforcement badly injuring them. Fact II: A fork is as deadly as it was in 1645, maybe lesser. Modern day guns are far more catastrophic in the hands of irresponsible people. That in itself requires strict regulation on guns.
Clarke Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Cause many pars in the US are not safe.......entire states like Michigan' date= Georgia and states in the South and Mid-West can be extremely dangerous.......I agree with you on the need for gun ownership laws to be way more stringent.......but If you are a wealthy person in the US.......you need serious security to stay safe.......I still stand by my point about irresponsible people being more at fault.....if not guns......people would and do find other ways to harm others...... FFS its United States, not the libertarian haven of Somalia. Many of us lived in these areas years without the need of a gun.

With spoons, knives and forks? Mate, give it up, you are seriously embarrassing yourself.
DomainK Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Another serious issue they have, besides the liberal gun laws and rights is their constitutional rights to privacy. According to law, if a policeman sees a man carrying a gun, and through years of experience of dealing with criminals and psychos, he sees tell tale signs of something wrong with the guy, he can not even ask him his name. If he asks the guy his name, he is not obliged to even respond. No name, no address, no "why are you hanging around here with a loaded gun?" (presumed answer to which is "because it's my bloody constitutional right"). The only thing the cop can do is to wait for the man to start shooting and then take any action.
Swing_n_Speed Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 America is soo screwed...Guns have become way too proliferated. The trust deficit between the people and the government is growing every single day. No easy way out. The gun culture problem is rooted in so many other problems. Merely trying to seize people's guns will only aggravate the situation.
EnterTheVoid Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 That mob has their cause and effect reversed. Americans: There is gun violence because there are not enough guns available. Everyone else who is not an idiot: There is gun violence because there are too many guns available.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 With spoons, knives and forks? Mate, give it up, you are seriously embarrassing yourself. Of all the things to pick and reply to......you pick that part........ btw may I ask, where exactly do you live?
