As BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar announced today that veteran leader LK Advani will not attend a crucial meet of the party in Goa this weekend citing ill-health, about 30 supporters of Narendra Modi stood outside Mr Advani's house in Delhi and chanted pro-Modi slogans. The protesters demanded that "Mr Advani must make way for Mr Modi to officially gather centrestage in the BJP and to be announced the head of the party's campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections." Mr Advani leads a faction that is against Mr Modi's promotion. He had skipped an important meeting of party office-bearers yesterday too and has extended his sick leave amid indications that his opposition to Mr Modi's elevation could be ignored and the Gujarat Chief Minister could be anointed head of the election panel on Sunday. Mr Advani reportedly wanted the decision on Mr Modi's elevation to be taken after the elections in five states this year. According to Mr Advani, Mr Modi's elevation would shift the focus on him, say sources. Mr Modi is a polarising figure on account of the communal riots in his state in 2002, in which hundreds of Muslims were killed during his first term in office. His severest critics accuse him of complicity in the riots - a charge not proven in court or by different commissions that have investigated the riots. Apart from Mr Advani, Jaswant Singh, Shatrughan Sinha and Uma Bharati, have said they're sick and will not make it to the Goa conference.

this what's so sad about congress today, probably the most low life bunch of politicians leading congress. these vermins have turned Congress into a toilet bowl unable to come out with a civilised repose to modi's popularity. there is still hope though with the likes of Jai ram Ramesh and ahmed patel still around.

Well, don't you know that it's their birthright. They have the right to criticize anybody in any manner. I do remember there was once a debate on how Indian politics have now been involved in personal abuses. And some of these politicians were in that debate and said it's terrible, yet they love doing it.

The problem with Narendra Modi supporters and his critics are that they refuse to see his good with the bad and thus try to cancel out his achievements/flaws according to political affiliation. NaMo supporters point to his economic growth and pretend that Gujarat did not happen (or it was justified). NaMo critics talk about the riots (often making it one sided by skipping muslim mobs/Godhra) and try to show loopholes in his economic achievements. Is Narendra Modi an able administrator who has changed the face of Gujarat and brought stuff like 24 hours electricity and working on ambitious projects like GIFT City and Dholera? Yes he is. Is Narendra Modi responsible for Gujarat riots? This is more tricky. I believe he is. Prolly not in a "Sab ko maar daalo" way as often portrayed but more like "Karo jo karna hai. Mai sambhal dunga". But my 'belief' is unimportant (as is the belief of many who believe he had a role in the riots). The rule is innocent until proven guilty and there's a case going on against him and only if he's proven guilty he is guilty, not before. Yes, he's a CM and can tamper with the evidence but that's that and we have to live with it. I will not vote for Modi not because of the riots and all (Don't really give a damn about them) but because I don't believe his economic policies will work in an all India context. Also the rest of the BJP team are a bunch of morons. People like Sushma Swaraj making decisions give me the chill. So I'll vote for INC. Personally I don't believe Modi will ever become PM but he'll remain CM for life and when he dies he'll die with full state honours.
