This is why a strict bowler Vs batsmen doesnt work.Lets not forget that a bowler is usually taken off when a batsman goes after him and if we see malingas record against India in the last 2 years, its something like at an average of 50 and 7 RPO which is just about on par with Kholi against malinga. But we all know how kholi has been above and beyond everyone else against SL. 5 100's and 8 50's in 2 years just against SL!!

In the matches involving Kohli Malinga has conceded 929 runs in 854 balls. Going at 6.52. We have more than one Malinga killer. Gambhir was the first then Dhoni joined, then Kohli. Raina also plays him well. I think Tendu/Viru did not have that much success in terms of domination like others.

Slightly off-topic, but India has successfully nullified the oddities of Lankans quite effectively - Murali, Mendis, Malinga. Dhoni and Kohli had no problems against Mendis while others were dropping like flies.

Kohli looked the best from the very first match against Mendis. Also he is the best against Ajmal from our side. Also Narine he is good. Probably the best against these mystery, unorthodox bowlers from our side.

Yes. This stat doesn't exactly reflect the kind of hold Kohli has over Malinga.That's why this bowler vs batsmen thing doesn't work very well in analysis. If batsman is going very well against a particular bowler, usually that bowler is taken off. On the other hand if batsman is vulnerable, he is compelled to face the same bowler.

In some of them he got out to someone else sooner. 174 is lot of runs against one single bowler. As a comparison . Tendulkar has made 151 runs in 164 balls against Malinga getting out 4 times to Malinga Gambhir has made 198 runs in 206 balls against Malinga getting out 2 times to Malinga Dhoni has made 161 runs in 139 balls against Malinga getting out 3 times to Malinga If we compare the batsmen all over the world with this stat no many would have scored even 100 runs against Malinga. Clearly Dhoni/Kohli/Gambhir have dominated Malinga coz their strike rate was pretty high against him.

I have just pulled a random stat of another international player Ricky ponting vs Malinga 59 runs in 66 balls getting out twice to Malinga.

Ross Taylor was absolutely clueless against malinga in 2007 world cup Taylor vs Malinga 46 runs in 63 balls . Never got out to him. But stats will give you only little. He never was comfortable facing Malinga. Only late in his career he started reading him somewhat. It is the ease with which you pick his balls that seperates Indians from other players.

Kohli was the one who played him with utmost ease from the very first encounter. He made 54 IIRC.India had to go through humiliation before finishing up reading him. OnlY viru was able to play him wll and to some extent Gambhir. Tendu didn't last long enough as he got out to Vaas, Murali et al. Dhoni's style is designed for late adjustments. He did well even in the first outing.
