UAE to host Under-19 Asia Cup in December

As the UAE prepares to host the prestigious Under 19 World Cup early next year, here comes more good news. The UAE has been honoured by the Asian Cricket Council to organise the Under-19 Asia Cup from December 26 till January 4, 2014. The tournament, which will feature eight top Asian teams, will be played at all the top facilities including the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai International Stadium in Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. The tournament will provide a great opportunity for the participating teams to get used to the conditions in preparations to the Under 19 World Cup in February, 2014. The teams are divided into two groups. Group A will have India, Pakistan, Nepal and UAE while Group B will have Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia. Expressing his delight over UAE getting the rights to host the tournament, Ashraful Huq, CEO of Asian Cricket Council said: “We are delighted to host the U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE and thank the Emirates Cricket Board for their commitment to cricket in the region. I wish all the participating teams a successful event.†The last Under-19 Asia Cup was held in Malaysia where the final between India and Pakistan ended in a nail-biting tie. This year too both teams will remain favourites to win the championship, but teams including Afghanistan and Nepal are the dark horses. David East, CEO of Emirates Cricket Board, said: "We are also delighted that the ACC has honoured us with the opportunity to host this prestigious event. We are sure that it will provide an excellent opportunity for our regional teams to acclimatise to the conditions here in the UAE, and also showcase our three wonderful international venues".

Sarthak Ranjan of Delhi, son of politician Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav who is life imprisoned convicted in a murder is emerging as a contender for U19 berth next year. Brilliant performances, third highest run getter, in Vinoo Mankad and great start in inter zonal U19 tournament for north zone. Bowlers like Rishi Arothe, Ateet Seth and Abhimanyu Lamba who played for U19 did not do anything special, but some new bowlers emerged specially fast bowler Sunny Lal fron Punjab and Sarang Rawat from Delhi. Raxlee Taylor from Gujarat is another emerging batsman.

U19 has been a good feeder as far as batters in the senior team but haven't seen any good bowlers coming thru, this shows selections , grooming process is lacking, why can't a Suyal, Veer, Aaron, Umesh, Kamran be picked up at U19 level, heard very good things about M Amir, Javed Khan who impressed Sachin but never ever see him in any squad

He is doing really well, was the highest wicket taker in Vinoo Mankad trophy with 22 wickets at 15. Wonder why is he not playing today for Central zone.
