Ram Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I hope you are only talking about the greatest Indian ODI batsman. I know your view about Viv, but I feel he dominated the sport in an era where the rest of the world had not even fully got their hands and minds around the ODI game. Dhoni’s opposition has been much stiffer.

maniac Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I am not trying to put down Dhoni....But we are going overboard with this hype......Yuvraj is leagues ahead of Dhoni as a finisher and the fact is he can play/destroy better attacks too......Apart from Lanka I havent seen Dhoni do anything of note against other teams as a "finisher".....As I said show me the proof. He is definetely Top 5 Indian ODI batsman and the best WK-Bat from India(statistically) ever that's as far as his praise should go

That includes Yuvraj. Yuvraj himself said he would want to finish early as pressure will be more in the last few overs.

maniac Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Now, please stop the red herrings. hGlqwkHasdM&feature=player_embedded[/youtub] Great.....But still don't think he is the greatest ODI player of all time...But yeah lets not divert from the topic.....I have already admitted the guy is good, even great, but still think he is overrated...That was a league game and had he finished it earlier our NRR would have been better
Crookbond Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Great.....But still don't think he is the greatest ODI player of all time...But yeah lets not divert from the topic.....I have already admitted the guy is good' date='even great, but still think he is overrated...[b']That was a league game and had he finished it earlier our NRR would have been better "Your thinking" is just hot air as you have provided no evidences. For the highlighted, Had top order scored runs we would have a higher NRR Had out bowlers given less runs we would have a higher NRR So yeah - the tautology trick doesn't work.

vvvslaxman Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Maniac is tr0lling. Still not recovered from Dhoni's pwning of SRH bowlers in death overs :cantstop:
adi B Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Comparing T20 vs ODI - LOL! does everything has to be a comparison?cant i give a general statement ..
vvvslaxman Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 End of over 49 (10 runs) India 292/5 (7 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 5.95, RRR: 7.00) MS Dhoni 27* (29b 1x4) JW Dernbach 10-0-69-0 RA Jadeja 26* (24b 2x4) ST Finn 9-0-44-2 Bresnan will bowl the final over. Dernbach is hobbling off the field after that over, and is replaced by Buttler. Good grief, this is tight. Could we see another tie? 49.1 Bresnan to Dhoni, FOUR, murdered over extra cover! Floated up full and wide by Bresnan. Dhoni opened up his stance and absolutely hammered the drive in the air. The crowd go wild! 49.2 Bresnan to Dhoni, FOUR, and another! Dhoni shovels a length delivery up and over cover, sealing the game and the series for India India take a 3-0 series lead with a five-wicket win. T

adi B Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Nice try but the moment when you use the word "best" it is a comparison. :winky: off course it was the best

T yeah it was the mohali match, dhoni pwned bhaisnan.. 2 innings where dhoni could not take us home recently while chasing in a pressure situations are 1)tie match vs lanka in adelaide,9(i think) were required in the last ovr vs malinga, off course malinga being a good death bowler,he could not win it 2)1st odi vs england rajkot ,dhoni hit 3 sixes but unluckily got out and hence our hopes were dashed
vvvslaxman Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 It is not just while chasing.. also while batting first.. he really goes mad in the death overs.. He scored 29 runs in the last 2 overs against England. Against Pakistan at chennai after rebuilding he scored 26 runs in the last 2 overs. he scored 32 runs in the last 2 overs against SA Against England he scored 22 runs in the last 2 overs
The Outsider Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I know your view about Viv, but I feel he dominated the sport in an era where the rest of the world had not even fully got their hands and minds around the ODI game. Dhoni’s opposition has been much stiffer. All rule and playing condition changes have favored the batsmen since Richards' time. Anyhow, for me Dhoni would struggle to make the top 10 ODI batsmen ever, so we are not even in the same ballpark here.
