deathmonger Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 there was a lot of chatter among SA fans that they wont miss Smith and kallis. That has proven to be wrong......... Sa have always struggled in SL. I am sure they are glad that the test series was postponed for SLPL. Somehow get a feeling Herath would tear through them along with Dilshan. Last time around it was 2-0 to SL and Murali crushed them. SLPL itself got can cancelled
Trundler27 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Believe it or not Kallis is a huge loss to their side in any format. This guy is a once in a generation type of player that adds ridiculous balance to the team. Any team would die for a brilliant top order batter, a more than handy seamer, and a superb fielder all-in-one. Even their test side is going to feel the pinch once he is gone because i don't see ABDV as a kallis-level test match batter for sure.... Amla is their best batsman after Kallis
adi B Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 suddenly we`ll see all the saf legends i.e smith, kallis, steyn coming back ,pitches will become green, our batsmen will suddenly go out of form, some players might get injury hit..wont take a lot for this to happen :winky:
Sidhoni Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I feel in the SC even their test team won't be as good as they are outside SC. They lack a decent specialist spinner.
Crookbond Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I feel in the SC even their test team won't be as good as they are outside SC. They lack a decent specialist spinner. They will always be a force in SC as long as they play their type of cricket - patience and more patience. They play a Test match at their own pace without worrying much about forcing a result. The last time I saw them forcing a result was way back in 2006 in Australia which they eventually lost.
Nash Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 This is first time i have high hope on ODI win in SA. And Same high hope for losing Test in SA. haha
Iconoclast Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 RSA ODI team is pretty ordinary in the bowling department ... I think they need to get Philander into the one day team/
Manny_Pacquiao Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Smith Amla Kallis Du Plessis ABDV Ingram Miller Peterson Tosotobe Steyn Morkel Hardly a poor team. Morkel is one of the best ODI bowlers in the world as is Tstotobe. Steyn is Steyn. Kallis can churn out 5-8 overs. Peterson and Miller can keep it economical. Swap Albie Morkel in if they need a hitter. Smith, Amla, ADBV, Faf, Kallis are wonderful batsman. kallis is old and washed up, so is smith. they need to find replacements for those two, because they are well past their peak. no steel in that lower/middle order, and some of them cant play spin. so basically you have a huge dependence on amla & AB de villiers, if both of them fail then they will struggle to cross 200. bowling is incredibly overrated. steyn isnt half as good in ODIs (average record in this format), tsotsobe would get taken apart on good batting surfaces, peterson is garbage. kallis can't bowl anymore, so you would have mclaren/chris morris filling in as a fifth bowler - nothing special. here they will depend a lot on morkel. its probably the worst ODI XI they have had, the teams from previous world cups were much stronger. finally, this is a team that doesnt play a lot of ODI cricket. thats probably the main reason why they fail in big tournaments, a real lack of experience in competitive games. they also have, as kirsten said, 'a dark mist hanging above their heads', from all those failures in the past. they wll be knocked out in the world cup QF/SF as usual.

But they miss decent spinners and without Kallis their middle order is looking pretty weak too.
