Tiger80 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 BHOPAL: A girl student of a pharmacy college allegedly committed suicide after being ragged by her seniors and a faculty member, police said on Thursday. Four of her seniors, all females, and the faculty member were arrested today, they said. Anita Sharma (18), pursuing her B-Pharma second year course from the RKDF College, hanged herself yesterday at her residence in Jeevan Vihar Society here, police said. A note, purportedly written by Anita, blamed her four seniors and the faculty member for the suicide, police said. According to the note, the girl's seniors had been allegedly ragging her from the time she got admission in the college. They forced her to write their mid-semester copies and when she brought this to the notice of faculty member, identified as Manish, he asked her to obey her seniors if she wanted to continue in the college, police said. Later, when the seniors came to know about her complaint, they started harassing her further and threatened to throw acid on her as well as rape her, the suicide note said. Police arrested her four seniors, identified as Nidhi, Dipti, Divyanshi and Preeti and faculty member Manish, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dilip Singh Tomar told reporters. They were arrested on the charge of abetment to suicide, he added. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today directed the authorities to seriously deal with the issue of ragging. State chief secretary R Parsuram also chaired a meeting in this regard and directed officials to take stern measures to prevent recurrence of such an incident. The victim, Pranali Pradeep Rane, a resident of Indira Nagar locality in Nashik, first slashed her wrist and then hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her house when she was alone. Ten youngsters, six boys and four girls, who ragged the girl were arrested on Monday for allegedly driving their colleague to suicide. The girl left a note which purportedly mentioned that she was harassed and ragged by her colleagues which prompted her to take the extreme step. The note was handed over to the police by the deceased's father. Police have booked the 10 accused under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of Maharashtra Ragging Act. The victim's father alleged that her daughter was bright and she was selected to go to Germany for further training by the company. Her colleagues were jealous of her and, therefore, they used to harass her. The father of the victim, Pradip Rane, said, "My daughter was a bright student. Her colleagues were jealous of her that's why they used to harass her. Pranali should get justice." Pradip Rane said that he talked to the victim's senior about the behaviour of the trainees. But it was of no use. The accused and the victim were doing apprenticeship at the company following completion of industrial training after passing from Class 10. The 10 arrested accused, all in the age group of 18-19 years, have been identified as - Bhooshan Paradeshi, Abhijit Bhor, Vishal Korade, Amit Pawar, Swapnil Sonawane, Shweta Shinde, Tejaswini Birari, Shubhada Kajale, Neha Sonawane and Harshal Patil. The accused were produced in a local court and remanded in police custody till September 7. It just manifests in various formats - ragging is one of them.
