although he has selected vvs as 12th man,the main reason why he selected himself ahead of him might be because of captaincy.i think he feels he`s the best bet to lead the team, not dhoni, kapil.cant find other reasons

I saw this show on TV(Headlines Today?) yesterday and the dumbass anchor picked Ganguly at number 5 for tests and as opener for ODIs before asking him to pick the remaining 10.
this settles then

He dithered on number 5. Named Vishwanath and VVS and when the anchor prodded "Ganguly bhi ho sakte hain", said "haan Ganguly bhi ho sakte hain". In the end he did leave it to the anchor who picked Dada with the argument that a 12th man will be picked and that will be VVS so naming Ganguly in the 11 will not be a problem. Towards the end agreed with the anchor in naming himself as the captain! http://aajtak.intoday.in/video/-sourav-gangulys-dream-team-1-739287.html
whats the problem then.the team needs a captain, who better than dada in tests?

whats the problem then.the team needs a captain' date='who better than dada in tests?[/quote'] A great team can be handled by an ordinary captain. Besides, there are enough players with very good captaincy credentials in the team. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Not sure why so much hullabaloo over Ganguly picking himself over Laxman. Laxman - 8781 test runs with avg of 45.97 (17 centuries) Ganguly - 7212 runs with an avg of 42.17 (16 centuries) Almost identical stats. Please note, Ganguly played less test matches (21 less) than Laxman. Both are great players for India..but I would pick Ganguly due his amazing leadership skills in test matches. On a side note, Kohli is better than both of them though :agree:
VVS 113 matches - 7415 runs at 47.22, 16 hundreds.

no doubt vvs is a better test player than gangu but what is this logic of comparing how they fared in exactly the same no.of tests? its subjective to a lot of factors,age,form,fitness,away/home series etc.. you cannot selectively display such stats because everyone will just look at where u finish ur career. its foolish to compare sachin and tharanga`s career after 100 odis

Oh really? At the same number of matches, Kohli is way ahead than Sachin, both in terms of runs and centuries. Does that mean he is better than Sachin? These comparisons are baseless. I agree Laxman is slighty better test batsman than Ganguly, but I would pick Ganguly due to his other attributes. Got a better cricket brain, a leader, can bowl too.

LOL! What a joke! Good thing he didn't name a captain. He would have picked himself to captain the team as well :cantstop:

While folks here argue about VVS vs Ganguly vs Vishy, most people have forgotten Vijay Hazare. This team is at best a post 70s team. Even then, Gangu should not even figure in a second XI.

He is a certainty in odi's but agree vvs not being in tests is just poor judgement almost as bad as championing Dhinda! There is nothing wrong with selecting yourself, in kapil devs 11 last week he didnt select himself which makes a joke abt being humble v reality. It is like sachin not picking himself in an all time xi!

Laxman's average look poor becoz he was forced to open when he first came into the team where he struggled badly. We nearly ruined his career with that stupidity  Not to forget him batting at no.6 and at times having to score runs shielding the tail.Otherwise would have comfortably averaged above 50. Only place Ganguly was better than Laxman was in England IIRC.Everywhere else Laxman was well ahead of Ganguly.Should have regularly batted at 5.
