Cook's epic failure in Ashes series

7 & 7 in this match. Last 10 Test matches w/o a 100. Average dropped nearly half a point(0.46) in this match alone. Kudos to Australia, Johnson in particular.

Cook is very good, but I think he would be found out against genuine pace+swing - Oz and SA in particular. He does play spinners quite well, although his ultimate test would be against Ajmal, Hafeez, Rehman and Babar in Dubai.

In 2010 he averaged 23 and 26 in UAE in 2012. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

:--D Yeah, I know. I was deliberately acting ignorant. I rate Pak, Oz and SA (not necessarily in that order) as the top 3 attacks currently around, and Cook hasn't been very impressive (even if he has decent avgs in some cases) against any of them. I wonder how he would have fared in the 90s and early 2000s: Pak - Saqlain, Mushtaq, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib WI - Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop SA - Donald, Pollock, de Villiers, Schulz Aus - McGrath, Warne, Gillespie, Fleming, McGill, etc SL - good at home with Murali and Vaas Ind - good at home with Sri, Raju, Kumble NZ is the only team that has a slightly stronger attack now. Even then, they had decent bowlers who worked as a team - Cairns, Morrison, Nash, Doull, etc. The Zim attack was also better then. Bangladesh current attack is better than their 90s one of course.

He'll be back with a vengeance against India in the summer.
Given the current lot of trundlers that this team has, barring Shami, even Broad and Anderson could score centuries against us. I wouldn't consider Cook's runs against us to be of much worth - it's his performance against strong bowling sides that shows him up.

I back him to score heavily against Sri Lanka and India. Other than Shami Ahmed, I think India's bowling lineup will even let Broad/Bresnan score centuries. Stokes is gonna pose some problems too as he can be destructive with the bat.

People do have to realize that 10/11 Cook and @ India COok didn't have pressure, the former was not captain and the latter was under no pressure. However you got to give Australia credit for sticking to their plans.

He completely transformed himself in that Ashes series into this great great player. That series really brings back a lot of pains :(. Ugh I remember us using Doherty and Beer as our spinners. Against India, any out of form player scores a century or gets back in form. I just don't see Cook as a good captain. Strauss was much more aggressive.

Cook has played quite a few Ashes tours. Apart from that 2010/2011 series, which saw Oz's attack at possibly its weakest, I don't recall any other good Ashes tour for Cook. Hence, it is more suggestive that the 2010/11 Ashes tour was an anomaly.

Australia did not allow that as survival itself became difficult for him against incisive, intimidating and penetrative attack. Entire credit goes to Australia. Even if he plays 5 more tests in Australia he still won't find any form. But on the same pitches he would have scored much freely against most attacks in the world.

Since straussy dealt with the burdens of captaincy, cook played naturally and batted like a god. He just could do no wrong. This time ryano and Mitchy never let him settle and play his natural game :3. His captaincy was attacked and it all came crashing down. He is still highly respected for his batting in Australia and if India plays that long haired bloke I shan't and 35 year old zaheer, he will feast on em and regain confidence.

By the logic of Bridge pujaris fakeers Chetan Chauhan would have scored 8K runs at a S/R of 80% a-la Sehwag .. if only he had to deal with McGra instead of Lillee :hail:
Chauhan would have done OK in the late 2000s, and quite ordinarily even in the 90s and early 2000s.
