Plan to neutralize BCCI

The arrogance of some Indian fans is astounding. You can be rich and magnanimous. Just being the richest board doesn't mean you also need to be arrogant.

Cricket survived 100 years without BCCI's $.
Sure but it didnt really have a direct competitor. I am sure players would love to go back to the era of shop lifting socks or ending up driving a cab to make ends meet after the end of their cricketing careers.

The best way to neutralise (a better word will be reduce) the influence of the BCCI will be to (A) for others to run their boards in an efficient manner. (B) actually maximise their earning potential Problem with world cricket is that Sri lanka Pakistan West Indies and Zimbabwe are so poorly run that they are perpetual beggars. Thats one good thing about the Caribbean premier league. From the reports i am reading thats set to make the WI cricket board enough money to sustain themselves much better. Ie they will be a lot more independent. All these boards mentioned need to find means to generate 30-40 million USD per year in a 4 year cycle independent on India. Once they do that then the power of the BCCI will be drastically reduced.

Indian cricket with 4 or 5 teams against English cricket with 3 or 4 teams..Who do you think is going to lose more? The current cricket revenue system actually puts BCCI under tremendous disadvantage. Currently, BCCI gets only 50% of revenue generated from Indian international team since BCCI only owns the media rights of home series (Remember that 20 years ago, ECB played two-thirds of their games at home). Add to that the revenue lost from rights every year for a couple of months during ICC tournaments since ICC wont let Indian team sponsors advertise during that time. So effectively we are losing money as opposed keeping all the money as in the IPL. Sure we will lose lots of cricket followers but those numbers will be minuscule compared to the people that will still watch. If IPL expands,i believe, BCCI gains more monetarily than what it loses from International cricket with England, Australia and NZ. IPL is just 6 weeks and yet every year, it earns the same revenue as International cricket does for BCCI. Meanwhile ICC will lose 70% of its revenue stream. ICC changed WC formats to keep India in for as long as possible, ICC staged WC matches at absurd times for the sake of Indian viewers, ESPN threatened ICC when India was eliminated early from the 2007 WC...do you really see ICC surviving if BCCI is banned?
agree 100% India basically subsidises world cricket via tours and via ICC takings. I read the ICC made profits of $321 million from the 2011 cricket world cup. From which each permanent member (excluding the hosts) got $20 million and associates $5 million. All the revenue generated from the ICC is split equally among permanent members. That means a team like Zim gets the same revenue as the team like India. Despite India generating most of that income for the ICC. Now i personally support this. But people need to acknowledge that this is wealth distribution. Long may that continue. But you cant have a system whereby you are more than ready to be subsidised and also continue to cruse the BCCI for the way they do things. Not long ago I read some comments on cricinfo about fans of some other countries moaning that the BCCI had got the most events to host. These people are totally oblivious that BCCI hosting events means that the extra money generated via India is pumped into countries like Zim and Nz to support cricket there.

Does Woolf report only applies to cricket? Someone should send it to FIFA, ask them to share revenues, European countries football associations will be very happy. If BCCI administrators have any sense they would find a way to keep all the revenues in our country but....

I m wondering whether Bcci has put back its money into player deveopment or what ?
Go to bcci.tv there under "Press Zone" you can find 'Annual Reports' which gives details of what they have done and what they are planning. The fact is they are doing a lot for Indian cricket and Indian cricket players.

So why is CSA whining and moaning over simple change in # of games? Word is that, this small reduction in games (though in line with ICC stipulations) will reduce the revenue enough have very adverse effects on CSA. You are either a lallu clueless about what BCCI brings to the table as far as cricket goes or simply a hater. which one is it? I'm happy to listen to your explanation

What did BCCI bring to table during Kapil' date=' Gavaskar days?[/quote'] You mean the amateur days when all these guys had day jobs? You think such a system will work? Is so why is CSA begging for more cricket days with india in spite being treated like dirt by BCCI?

Seeing CSA's fate as they tried to take BCCI head on and what happened to ECB few years ago, its clear that no one board is able to tangle with BCCI. So the rest of the boards have to work together to introduce any change to the status quo. Option 1: Boycott BCCI and kick them out of ICC. Not really an option as observed by CSA current quandary. It will be case of, surgery is a success, but the patient is dead. Option 2: Implement Woolf report w/o involvement of BCCI. Pool all the revenues besides BCCI's share, distribute it equally among the members. This creates an even playing field for the rest of the members and eliminates their need to dance to BCCI's tune. This will allow the game to become more popular and grow the revenue from the increased popularity and it become a true world wide game. this will also eliminate BCCI's hegemony. Of course, this will mean some short term pain for some of the boards, but it will be a small price to pay for their stated long term goal, i.e., betterment of the sport of cricket. As the say charity begins at home and its about time, the old powers of cricket showed some real leadership instead of paying lip service.
The only real way you can get BCCI out of the way is to somehow get the Indian Govt / Parliament to ban BCCI from using "India" as the name of their team - that the team does not represent India but it represents BCCI. Reasons for this - The Indian public basically keeps the world game running. They are the financial market for most of the corporates that invest in the sports (thru advertising, tv rights, etc ,etc). If the Indian public were told that the team they will now be cheering does not "belong" (I use that term knowing very well that the team legally does not belong to the public) to them but just a private body, then their interest in the team will reduce. Following the team's fortunes might not seem interesting anymore. For the above to happen even the other boards need to put their necks on the line and face questions about the legitimacy of calling their teams by their countries' names. Good luck with that Somehow such discussions are more entertaining on rsc than here (although this particular thread didn't get enough talking points) :icflove:

Although lot of it goes unreported, no other board gives back to the players (retired and even long serving first class players) as much as BCCI has been doing consciously over the last few years. One of the main reasons for BCCI's power is the support it has from the players. BCCI, like a good employer, keeps its employees (players) happy. We don't get to hear about it in the media much but BCCI bosses (including Srinivasan, Dalmiya and the likes) actually listen to the players, gather their opinions on major issues and make decisions generally in a way that keeps the players happy. I remember an interview from a year or so ago in which Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid were very impressed and spoke highly of Srinivasan for how much he listens to the players. I am not sure about this but I think (correct me if I am wrong) BCCI is the only board that has pensions for its players from first class levels. It is either pensions or one-time payments for their services rendered to the game. Blaming BCCI for everything is fashionable. It is even more fashionable to brand BCCI as an evil organization. But sometimes we need to give them credit for how much they have turned the wold game over in the last couple of decades. Cricket has become a more accessible, more watched, and more glamorous sport ever since BCCI has held the reins starting the mid 90s. Indian domestic and international players have never been taken better care of and rewarded for their services more in the last decade than at any time in Indian cricket history. The most telling indicator of this is the fact that parents now consider cricket as a legitimate profession for their kids. No I am not a BCCI blanket supporter but I just want to give them credit where its dure

People speak about BCCI as if its an organisation that deserves capital punishment. The issue is driven mostly by an anti BCCI theme reflected in the global cricket media (read english) nowadays. Let us look at what BCCI has achieved in the last deacade or so: - They have made cricket a respectable and practical career option not just for players lucky enough to wear national colours but even for first class domestic players. The old guard within BCCI almost ignored the livelihoods of 1st class players. On the other hand today there are literally thousands of families that depend on BCCI for their livelihoods today. - Somebody mentioned getting the Govt. involved in neutralising BCCI. Does anyone here really believe that the Govt should be involved anyway in running Indian cricket. The stark contrast in the way the World Cup run by the BCCI and Kalmadi's Commonwealth shambles should be lesson enough. - Who exactly will step in to fill BCCI's shoes. Half the boards cant even manage themselves let alone world cricket. Boards like WI, Pak, SL, Bangla, Zim, NZ are mostly cash strapped and have issues of their own. That leaves the likes of OZs, pommies and SA, rest assured they will have their own agendas. The english cricket board is at the mercy of Murdoch and the Sky empire, the only thing they do consistently well is organise Ashes and point fingers at BCCI. - BCCI have themselves evolved from a nexus of two or three state cricket boards that filled the Indian team to a nationally involving one. From players to venues they have tried to ensure that our cricket represents the country rather than a few groups. - BCCI have also been sensible enough to be revenue driven. Money is a must for survival let alone growth. They have banked on ODIs and then evolved to T20s to ensure cash generation. Simply crying about ones love for Test cricket will not keep the engine running. The ECB has been stuck in the rut forever and have done absolutely faff all about the growth of cricket in their own country. Other boards are now desperately trying to copy the IPL model to have a consistent revenue generator. The issue with BCCI is image. They have made mistakes, plenty of cover ups, favouritism etc..etc... but which organisation is perfect, especially in India. Our country is built on the ethos of corruption and favouring near and dear ones. BCCI never defends its stance and rarely uses the media to explain its decisions. Their PR is catastrophic. They need to represent themselves better. Also the likes of ecb playing a leading role in world cricket will spell doomsday for the game.
