How about the new Devdas vs the Dilip Kumar devdas? I thoroughly enjoyed Devdas, and not just because it was a SRK movie. One of those rare SLB movies that brought a tear to the eye. :(( All round great acting, good eye on detail and good dialogues too. I found it better than the older Devdas. SRK did a better job than Dilip Kumar, and Madhuri was a better Chandramukhi to Vaijantimala. Also, it is one of the few movies where I liked the movie more than the book. I found the book encumbered with a lot of (unnecessary) detail. Its more a historians' gold mine, with the kind of detailed exposure on the way the Bengali upper castes lived in the early 1900s. Doesn't add much to the story though.

The screenplay was specially awesome in the Devdas and Chunni scene in the train when they were left undisturbed from fellow passengers.
