express bowling Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 as much I am impressed with the increase in quality of talent at junior ranks these days, I still cringe at the level of pace bowling . why is it so difficult to identify taller ,quicker bowlers? there is some problem right from those levels. also the states individually have to take it upon themselves to identify quicker bowlers.if they are under 6 , demand special strengths like athleticism and shoulder speed.generally look for those above 6 4 Yes.

Anything more will hurt our kaptan Saab's perennially injured fingers. :--D Even Bhuvi has been instructed to bowl 125 to 132 k instead of the 130 to 138 k range at which his seam and swing were really succeeding in the previous few series.

I think since he played for CZ in Duleep it is much better warm up (not just for Umesh but for all the India players) for a test series than these shoe horned in ODIs. In ODIs by definition bowlers have to focus a lot more on control. The message to him is in fact, play long format cricket where you can bowl flat out not have to worry about conceding runs. We need you to take wickets for us in tests, vs WI and in SA, who cares about these pointless ODIs. He will surely be playing LOIs in SA just as he did in England. Ideally we would be playing that full series in SA and all the India players would be playing in Duleep trophy as preparation. That would serve to give them better prep for test cricket but also give greater significance to a tourno that should be the most important in Indias domestic season.

Have you ever heard " too many pitched up deliveries" from Indian commentators, even when they are getting hit. ?

In India, in club cricket, during practice if you bowl short, you will be lambasted by coaches and batsmen. You will be asked to bowl full to give batsmen practice. That is what is a pace bowlers job in the nets in club cricket.

All of your posts are based on the assumption that the best way to produce a fast bowler is to relentlessly bowl him into the ground. Perhaps this is not the right way to go. I'm not saying one thing or the other, I'm just saying maybe you should question that your assumption is wrong. Maybe long-term thinking is required sometimes and maybe it is seen that he is out of form and inconsistent in the format and so requires more time before he becomes a full time member of the team. Any thinking that Yadav is not a highly valued member of the set up is conspiratorial nonsense!

Any 140kph bowler who is good in the format will dominate domestically in that format, just like Umesh Yadav does! Umesh Yadav's bowling average for Vidarbha in First Class cricket is 19.58!

We had potentially an express fast bowler, now cos of one or 2 games of odis, dumped and put to pasture. Result wants to focus on line and length. The message was sent loud and clear, we dont want fast attacking bowlers, instead we pick vinnay and unadkunt. Now with Shami jack ass Dhoni tring to kill him as well mentally and physically, with no new ball and 10 spells in 15 overs. Do not play him in pointless ODIs on home pattas, but he is in the ODI squad for SA series. Ensures he is fit for test cricket too which is where he is really needed. His action is not one the is conducive to 'line and length' bowling, so we'll see where this goes. Can only pray it does not hit his pace.

Everythng should be done to polish these diamonds and make them great bowlers. Yadav should have been in all odis and played, encouraged. Am sure if had played in the odis we would be looking at better more experinced player, just liek shami will have developed for his inclusion despite dhoni doing weird stuff with him. We are trying to ruin other gem in Shami. No new ball. 15 overs with 10 spells. Bowls one bad in an over and gets hit for 4, instantly taken off hence one over spells, meanwhile others get hit for 4 nothing happens and they carry on bowling. These men with pace are rare diamonds in Indian cricket. We should be doing all we can to help them, instead we do opposite. Just not in our culture in how to groom pace bowlers and make them great players
