Strategically, it's a right move....He is little wayward and he can go for lot of runs esp in sub continent for ODI's and could dent his confidence. He is our main bowler for Test cricket, assuming Zaheer is not in contention and can't let this happen to him. May be one more year and he should be in the ODI for all money

Rubbish. Let him play and learn. Tell him to keep bowling quick but learn and adapt i.e back him. Instead message has gone out to him. Compromise on pace. As we dont back pace, as we drop you. yes can go for runs now but thats point. Back him so can learn and get better.

He was completely out of sorts in Challenger trophy. I do not think our selectors are particularly eying for pacers who have some pace to them.

He bowled some good spells in CT. No idea why you say completely out of sorts. You did npt watch that warm up game against aussies when wrecked them. Its that kind of pace and talent that needs backing Bowled good wheels and a threat. Yet axed

I meant recently concluded Challenger trophy. First 3 overs in the first match were pretty good as good as he ever bowled but then lost his radar for the rest 16 overs and went for a lot of runs. Even Vinay went for runs but the difference between the two was they way those runs were conceded. Yadav looked worse than a club bowler. Bowling most on the pads and leg side wides, too full or too short. Conceded so many boundaries through fine leg. Regarding Champions Trophy and WI tour, he was poor even there.

Carry on axing fast bowlers cos of one or two games, then they will soon realise for long caarer in odis and tests. Need to bowl low 80s so accurate and not injured. Great!!! What we need a fast bowlers who learn to bowl with accuracy and pace. But to do that you need to back the bowler Wrong message sent

That is why they did not pick him. Let him get the rhythm back though more FC matches. There is a lot of cricket to be played in coming months, cannot have a low in confidence if he was picked and had not bowled well.

I mostly bowl my stock deliveries and mix them with a few slower ones. Lately, I have been trying to bowl like Lasith Malinga. It is more to distract the batsmen; it is not that it is a big wicket-taking weapon for me; it is just one-off, and only to put off the batsmen. There were some reports that you are considering switching over permanently to bowling with the Malinga action because it gives you extra pace. Is it true? It is not true. It is just my variation ball and I may bowl that delivery just once in a match. I want to bowl with my action because I have been bowling like that since I was small and got so many wickets in domestic cricket. I do not want to switch to any other action.

I dont understand this 'save for test' mindset these days. How many ODI's/matches Srinath, Kapil, Zaheer skipped in their 20's to extend their career? A fast bowler can only improve if he plays more matches and not by warming his couch resting.

Exactly 10 overs in an odi game is good tone up. Not exerting. Will get him right for further matches like tests. Instead will play duleep and bowl loads of overs. Hardly being saved, in fact will bowl more

He has to work on his one day bowling. His List A stats suck too. That's a good indication. You cant just pick him just because he is phaassht. Dont behave like Pakis who have orgasms over speedometer readings despite getting whacked for plenty of runs in important games.

today there is lot more cricket then there was in days of Srinath,Kapil. Zak also wasn't a regular in his early days IIRC

I agree Vinay Kumar was not a right choice. But i think its right that Umesh is not playing ODI cricket. He needs to get his radar right. From what i remember Dev was not express pace. While Srinath missed a hell of a lot of matches. The guy was so injury prone that when he took to the field he threw underarm from the boundary. Also, Unadkat and Ishant are hardly trundlers. They are not express pace. But bowl consistently in the 135 bracket. Unadkat especially touched 140 a lot of times for RCB Saurashtra and India in Zim when i saw him. What India needs in the limited overs are bowlers who can bowl 10 overs in the 135 bracket in T20s and ODIs. Thats the bare minimum.
