I remember that Azhar catch too in the slips. Hilarious low scoring match that was. It might be 4:30 am, I guess I am confusing it with the 1990 football world cup.

Also a tie in to AVKC.....I used to wonder why SRT was getting to bowl during that series,much like another Young star on the rise(Rat) as to why he randomly is given the ball by the captain these days...Some parallels there :hmmm:

:giggle: ok ...But before the Hero cup miracle,always thought his action and bowling was ridiculous,especially when they had him listed as medium pace but his swagger with the bat was something else...Still have the copy of India today somewhere which had an article on him during/after that series

But Sachin's variations were always amusing, including his long hops. Going back to the B&H series, I also remember Ganguly's debut there. That memory still seems fresh.

The ODIs in New Zealand were at 2:30. I remember being so thrilled that I slept hardly an hour and a half before the first match. SRT scored a duck, which I think I missed because I was taking a quick nap at around 7 am. The earliest memory is some reports in Hindu when he scored the big hundreds in school cricket. I have the Sportstar which had an article on his fc debut. Another one around the same time (probably when he was first selected for Pakistan) had him on the cover and read "Tendulkar : Teen Tornado"

I dont remember which ODI match that was and whom we played against, it was in my uncle's place with my twin cousins(both are crazy Sachin fans) that was the first time I watched a complete innings of a cricket match. It was him and Viru opening the innings i kept on asking who is Sachin between the two (they looked very similar with their helmet on and with their batting style :giggle:). He got out early in that innings I think it was inside first 10 overs. Have seen him bat before too but those were only for few balls here and there

Thanks for solving the 2:30 puzzle. :-) When Sachin was scoring those big school hundreds, the Bengali papers (ABP) were already screaming that the next Gavaskar has come.

Also the best part is his evolution to almost a god like figure right in front of my eyes.....I mean Kapil was god could do no wrong,Azhar was my favorite batsman-A real style bhai-Copied his mannerisms and style in Gully cricket,SRT well was a fine young cricketer. Then the M.O.M against Pak-1992 happened which was still Cool enough,This was followed by the Hero Cup Miracle and then suddenly -it was the Wow factor and then that NZL game where he opened the innings happened I know people say Greatbatch or even Cheeka back in the day invented it-Jayasuriya revolutionised it but that innings in NZL was something else...No ugly innovation,No slogs,no unorthodox cricket,Sheer class and pure genius-That is when I started adopting the faith of Sachinism

Lol....ALso the most ridiculous thing was the Kambli-Azhar-SRT Pepsi Ad and I beleive this was around the Bombay Blasts-Babri Masjid time and there was a controversy created about Do Hindu Haar gaye aur ek Musulmaan jeet gaya :facepalm:

I took a liking for Srikkanth simply because I was bored of Shastri's tuk-tuk. I remember when I went to Chennai as a child, I did figure out where he stays and look a good look at his house.

I remember watching the match against Pakistan live. The way he mercilessly butchered Qadir is tough to forget.

Ditto .. First time I heard about him was in news reports in 1988 regarding two school boys Sachin and kambli making an unbeaten 664 run partnership with both scoring unbeaten triple centuries ... First time seeing him live was when in 1989-1990 when I saw his debut test innings live on tv in 1989 ..that time , there was a lot of buzz about him..then in that makeshift one dater , when he hit sixes and made mincemeat of nadir,Mushtaq Ahmed ,waqar and waseem was the day when almost everyone realized that he is going to be around fir a long time and break many records ..

Anyone else remember the phase in SRT's career when he considerably slowed down in terms of career S/R. This was around the time after he acheived his first one-day 100.....I beleive he took Sunny G's advice and i remember a lot of fans cursing out on sunny G for running yet another exciting cricketer...Apparently Sunny G had imparted similar wisdom to Ravi in the past....Might just be fun gully talk because there were no forums back in the day
