G_B_ Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 hmm I dont think it did even isahnt in favours long term that he was played when in such terrible form. Should have gone back to the domestics and got back his groove.
saneindian Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I have to admit. I was wrong about jaddu Che bhai app to serious ho gaye, but Jaddu needs to pick more wickets. Curators needs to give him some turning pitches though. Maybe time to bring out the raging turners NOW, Aussies will be thoroughly exposed :--D
Laaloo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I have to admit. I was wrong about jaddu You are only wrong about his bowling and fielding. He will cost us many games if Dhoni and Raina don't fire and we require like 60 off of 35 deliveries or something like that
msb1991 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 That is why I have been constantly saying that domestic records cannot be the sole criterion for selection. The way a player is playing and the type of player he is - must be cnsidered first and then choose the performers among the correct type of players. Agree. We must choose among the good domestic performers. That is not to say we should stick to the top domestic performers or play everyone who does well at domestic. But everyone we do play should be a good domestic performer.

Hopefully experience will mean his batting will improve as his bowling has improved. IPL cricket will hopefully improve his ability to score quickly but commentators did mention that seven is a tough position. You need to either be able to rebuild a broken innings or accelerate immediately. Neither role is easy.

Wasn't v.k a top level performer in domestics.....most of the guys who have had freakish performances and won us games were all blooded young like rp,ishant, sree, irfan etc

He's a better bowler now but that's because he darts. He's going to get hit facing better batsman. His batting is still the same. I don't know how you are saying it's improved. If he can't bat at home, then he sure as hell ain't going to anything in Australia. We need to start picking and experimenting players for the world cup now. I've seen enough of Jadeja. Looks like Jadeja failing to get 20 runs off of 12 balls in the WC will show you the light also. :lightbulb:

I would say he is the best bowler in the side right now and it is no exaggeration.
Laaloo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Best bowler in the Indian team means nothing when you are competing against trash like Ishant, Ashwin, and Vinay Kumar. He doesn't pick up wicket. And today Australia weren't looking to attack him. He bowled good but it's not going to happen every day. If he offers nothing with the bat, is his fielding and bowling enough to offset his other inconsistencies?
msb1991 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Wasn't v.k a top level performer in domestics.....most of the guys who have had freakish performances and won us games were all blooded young like rp' date='ishant, sree, irfan etc[/quote'] You misread my post. I'll restate my point. A good international bowler has to be a good domestic bowler. A good domestic bowler does not mean a good international bowler. There is no such bowler who can bowl well against Australia and not against Kerala (for example). What would such a bowler be like?

That is not to say we should stick to the top domestic performers or play everyone who does well at domestic. But everyone we do play should be a good domestic performer. I would actually like a lot of A team tours to take place, both home and away. It is happening now and should not stop. They mimic conditions faced in international cricket much better. We should pick players with actual international potential in the A teams and pick the performers over some time among them in our international side. Currently we are not picking the A teams too astutely.
Ibes Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 C'mon Jaddu did well in England albeit the scoring was very top-heavy. I think he is also used to the Aussie conditions so no need to expirement yet. Only other spinners we have are Mishra, Ojha and Sharma. Picking Mishra instead of Jaddu/Ashwin who will replace them in batting if we also drop Raina and Yuvi. Jaddu is an automatic for me.

He is going to get hit facing better batsmen like who?? Like Sri Lanka? 4/23 in Tri Series final. Like South Africa? 2/31 in Champions Trophy. Like England? 3/39 in 4th ODI.
Laaloo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 What if it never improves? It doesn't look like it's going to improve. And the spot he bats at is very crucial and will be crucial in the world cup. He will need to have this 20 ball 34 run innings against good bowling attacks and he looks far apart from that. How long are you willing to wait? And citing his bowling once in month? Really? Even Ishant sharma picked up wickets and welll... you know what happened today

When they toured England, there was a guy called Ganapathy who I know longer see in zonal sides. Jaskaran Singh played for India A despite not being able to get into his state team. There are so many spin bowlers I see playing for India A but no Pragyan Ojha. We have to see if he is still up to the standard to come into the team and perform to a good level if we decide that Ashwin's batting is not worth his inconsistent bowling. The same 5 or 6 bowlers should play for India A over several tours and then you look at who the standouts are. But is must be a long term process. It cannot be like Unadkat taking 16 wickets on First Class debut against West Indies A and then going straight to the Test team. That was madness and shock shock, it didn't work!

How long are you willing to wait? And citing his bowling once in month? Really? Even Ishant sharma picked up wickets and welll... you know what happened today Once in month? I don't know what that means but he has been a consistent bowler against all oppositions. You said he cannot bowl against good opposition, I showed you evidence proving you wrong. He averages 21.37 in 2013 with an outstanding economy rate of 3.89! That is nothing short of amazing in modern ODI cricket. If his batting does not improve and he cannot adapt to the tough number seven position, then maybe he should be competing with the Ashwin for the number eight spot or maybe we should play two specialist spinners (one is Jadeja at 8) and two specialist pacers and look to get more overs out of Yuvraj and Raina. There are options!
Laaloo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 If he's competing with Ashwin for the 8th spot, then he will win it hands down. Then drop Ashwin. There is no contest at the moment. Yuvraj's bowling has been a worry also. I wouldn't trust him to get us the same 6-7 economical overs he used to. And Raina? this guy gave 77 runs in 7 overs in a test match. He's not a bowler. We should be picking 4 specialist bowler that can bowl 10 overs a match. Unfortunately, Dhoni never finishes the full quota. If the 4 specialist bowlers cannot bowl the full quota, then they shouldn't be in the team.

How long are you willing to wait? And citing his bowling once in month? Really? Even Ishant sharma picked up wickets and welll... you know what happened today I always worry when our ODI side has too many bits and pieces players and LOI specialists. Great ODI teams usually have a lot of very good batsmen and bowlers under all conditions. Our batting currently comprises of atleast 3 ODI experts if not 4. We should get atleast one more good batsman of pace bowling in our batting lineup. Raina, Yuvi and Jaddu all together in the same line up maybe found out in Australia. It will be difficult to replace Jaddu because of his bowling. So, only one of Yuvi or Raina should play at the same time.

I am dead against one good performance propelling a player into the national team. Long term performance should be important.
