I reckon we should bat first and score a lot. Either way, it wont be easy because we are not great at defending totals and SA have hitters to put pressure on our bowlers while defending. Chasing 160+ will also be tough because of pressure of Semi Final and we never had to chase more than 140 in this tournament so far. It will be a good contest.

It starts half an hour early, there is unlikely to be any dew. I say bat first in a big game. SA's batting has not been all that flash. An Abd blitz propelled them to 190 against England but otherwise they have struggled even against Netherlands. Bat first, get 160+ and let the pressure do the rest.

Obvious advantage batting first. England, NZ, Aus and now Pak as well, all chasing reaonsable to big scores have faltered. Yes all of these sides batted abysmally and had SL or Ind been chasing the same scores they would have done better, but I'm pretty confident in saying they wouldn't have chased those scores. Ricky Ponting on Sky yesterday commented on this point that it's easy to criticise the chasing, they have been poor, but the conditions are deteriorating at such speed that it's a major disadvantage for the chasing team. I also heard Goughie on the radio commenting that this tournament as a spectacle is not as enjoyable as the previous ones because if the side batting first posts even a score which is 20 below par, they'll defend it. Goughie and also Cork commented that the Semi finals and the finals will be won by the side setting the score. Both said Imran Tahir is a mediocre bowler and Duminy is ordinary, but even they will have success defending.

Given what has unfolded in the last few days, anything other than batting first would be stupid. It doesn't matter if India's strength is chasing, they have a good enough and destructive batting line up to be able to post big score. We have seen how other teams (albeit much worse batting sides) have wilted chasing.

I didn't know that about the last tournament. Clearly something needs to be done to sort this, cause you can't have a match decided by the toss.

LOL i punted £20 on WI after the toss. :cantstop: I think what happens is the same venue is used again and again, natural wear and tear happens. I think yesterday 166 was an above par score. Expected WI to win. But the margin of victory took me by surprise.

After playing in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians in 2009 and 2010, Duminy turned out for the now defunct Deccan Chargers in 2011 and 2012. Last season, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where in-form Indian leggie Amit Mishra was his teammate. Surely, he must have faced him a lot in the nets and would have given his teammates a clue or two about what to expect.
