rkt.india Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXOOrpj428k]Munaf Patel, EXTREME PACE, Boucers, best over of 2006 vs West Indies - YouTube[/ame] Those were the days we thought he was such a great find. Hope, Shami does not go his way.
Sooda Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Perhaps part of the problem with Munaf was that he was never a natural athelete and he started pro cricket relatively late in his life. He was not going sustain that kind of pace. Interesting how were talking up our pace bowling resources now, not long ago we had Zaheer, RPS, Sree bowling well and Munaf (though not quite of the class in the vid) also in the wings. Faded away soon enough
FischerTal Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Never knew munni bai could bowl above 140 :((

Lord Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Munaf,Irfa,Ishant,Sreesanth,RPS all started great but faded away :((
rkt.india Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Never knew munni bai could bowl above 140 :(( He was bowling up to 145K in his debut test against England.
Temujin Khaghan Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 there is not sidestepping like mcgrath either... i wonder who got it into his head that he couldbe mcgrath...
Temujin Khaghan Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 rp was a superb talent ... bowled some awesome spells in australia
FischerTal Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Munaf' date='Irfa,Ishant,Sreesanth,RPS all started great but faded away :(([/quote'] They didn't want to put in the hard work of staying fit. That's a concern I have with shami. I hope he stays fit for second and third spells against tougher opposition. He's wayward in line/length sometimes. His runup can still be improved. Hopefully Dawes works on this with him

FischerTal Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 rp was a superb talent ... bowled some awesome spells in australia But then he bloated up like a piñata and cook/bell smacked him around quite easily :((
FischerTal Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 He was bowling up to 145K in his debut test against England. Yet his most memorable moment in his career will be the slow the delivery to razzaq in World Cup :hysterical:
Malcolm Merlyn Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Watch his run up.He really used to run in quick. And then Chappel asked him to drop pace and get accuracy and destroyed him.Saala Chappel pushed back Indian cricket by couple of years. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk 2
CG Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 He was bowling up to 145K in his debut test against England. He never has stamina to maintain pace.his speeds varied form 125-145ks.Even in nz he touched 143ks but he could never maintain it for a over.

Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk 2 It has also to do with mismanagement, the minute someone good arrives we end up bowling him to the dust.We play most cricket so we need better management.even Steyn mainly plays Tests and skips ODIs regularly.Philander is doing the same.If we identify specialists for each format, this problem can be solved
rkt.india Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Get accuracy YES. Drop pace NO. He was always very accurate right from the start because he had a good action. Because of his injury prone body, He was told to imitate McGrath which is what he did but people usually forget that McGrath always tried to bowl as quick as he could.

It was his tendency to cool down time to time and increase the pace whenever needed like Steyn does now. I do think he lacked a great fitness but fitness can be worked upon through training and is not a thing which you cannot work on.
Old guy Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 difference with today's quick bowlers is they can average around 88 mph munaf always bowled quick spells but he never maintained it shami is good example as even when he was out of rhythm and practice he easily hit 135 and now fit and in rhythm he is crossing 140 k very easily umesh is even better ..imo
