diga Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 End is nigh for Tehelka.. Times they are changing Src:Business Standard Tehelka sacks 35 employees, even as KD Singh struggles to find buyers The curtain seems to be closing on the beleaguered news magazine, Tehelka, as around 35 employees of the company were handed the pink slip on Thursday. Most of the employees belonged to the circulation department. The termination of these employees has put into question of how the magazine will send future copies of the magazine to its subscribers. A source in Tehelka said the decision was communicated by the publisher, Nina Tejpal to the terminated employees through an email. K D Singh, who is the majority stakeholder of the magazine, denied any knowledge of the sacking of the employees. The magazine, known for its investigative journalism, has been courting trouble since the founder and former editor of the magazine, Tarun Tejpal, was accused of sexual assault of a Tehelka staffer. Tejpal’s police remand was extended by four days today by a Goa court. The magazine’s trouble are further set to increase as Singh was planning to exit the business. Singh, who is a Member of Parliament from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, is on the search for buyers for his 36 per cent in the newsmagazine. Singh, however, is struggling as there are not enough buyers to buy his stake. “We have been in the process of diluting stakes in the last two years and we are on the lookout. But, there are no buyers as of now,&" Singh told Business Standard. He said he was awaiting clarity on the case of alleged sexual assault by Tarun Tejpal. A Goa court today extended Tejpal’s police custody by another four days. According to last available Ministry of Corporate Affairs filings, Singh controls about 65 per cent of the shareholding in Anant Media, which owns Tehelka, through a company called Royal Building and Infrastructure. He had last year sold around 20 per cent of his stake. Singh clarified that he was not calling for a board meeting, as he was not clear of what direction he should take. “We also thought Tehelka was a good investment call."
diga Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 What an irony Shoma Chaudhury moderated a panel entitled “The Beast in Our Midst: Rape Survivors Speak Their Stories†at the annual ideas festival of her magazine, Tehelka. The symposium in Goa was attended by Robert De Niro, among other luminaries.

diga Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Ind Exp: victim alleges she is being slandered, threatened The former Tehelka journalist who has accused the magazine’s founder-editor Tarun Tejpal of sexually assaulting her, told the Goa Police Wednesday that she is being targeted by a fresh smear campaign through an email doing the rounds. Following this, a Goa Police team reached Mumbai and recorded her statement. Sources said she sought all legal protection available to a rape victim in a situation where her identity is revealed. She has complained that the contents of the email have hurt her and it also shows how a photograph — which had been removed from a Tehelka-linked website — has been taken out of context and efforts made to reveal her identity. The email, which contains some photographs of her with Tejpal, supposedly taken a day after the alleged sexual assault, insinuates that she is not seen behaving like a victim of sexual assault. Police sources said the woman told them she had put up a brave face as she was still working after the alleged assault and that her role of chaperoning a guest at the Tehelka event has now been misused against her. Sources said the email was circulated among a lot of people and reached the woman’s mother Wednesday morning. Goa Police took a copy of the mail and will try trace its source.
diga Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Lady cop files case of intimidation against Tejpal The lady investigating officer in the sexual assault case against journalist Tarun Tejpal has filed a complaint that he had threatened her during the probe. Panaji police on Wednesday registered non-cognisable offence of criminal intimidation under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code against Tejpal, following the complaint by Sunita Sawant, the police officer. Tejpal was interrogated by Sawant between November 31, 2013 till December 10, 2013 while he was in police custody, and he threatened her during the interrogation, she alleged. Sawant had mentioned this before sessions court during the hearing on Tejpal's bail plea, and the judge had noted it in the order dismissing his plea, a senior police officer told PTI. Tejpal, founder-editor of Tehelka magazine who was accused of sexual assault by a woman colleague, is currently lodged in Sada sub-jail.

diga Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Tejpal denied bail, & tries to communalise the case despite mountains of evidence & 2700 page chargesheet slapped against him,
Raghav_12 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Tejpal denied bail' date=' & tries to communalise the case despite mountains of evidence & 2700 page chargesheet slapped against him,[/quote'] Despite having 2700 pages, apparently chargesheet doesn't mention anything about CCTV footage which is very significant omission in view of the fact that prosecution had access to CCTV footage and that would have been most reliable and strongest evidence. Absence of CCTV footage may jeopardize whole prosecution case.
