well i will wait for south african series maybe johnson is just a slogger but he has won test matches against big teams with bat on very tricky wickets..
Ashwin did the same at home on tricky wickets. Both his 100s came on difficult tracks and when team was in tatters. He was our third best batsman on last Aus tour and looked more assured than RD, VVS, GG, Sehwag, etc.

He is never going to look clueless on any tracks as Mitch was. Yusuf pathan also has a 100 there lin SA Doesn't mean he is a great batsman. Johnson was hitting his way through against an attacking field in SA. Ashwin constructs innings like a top order batsman.

If it is that easy why were we in tatters? In both the tests he made 100 he saved us.. Infact couple of years back Ashwin was the one who saved the match for India almost took India to win.

pathan scored 100 in odi big difference http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/6033.html?class=1;orderby=batted_score;template=results;type=batting;view=innings see some of these innings and tell me they are not as good as ashwin's 100 that 40 odd runs in 2012 won them test match http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/514030.html and i am not even talking about series before this where he went bonkers

I always say you mostly play conditions. Look at today, there is not much in the pitch but poor batting by Aussies. When I switched on the tv at 47/1, it looked like a batting beauty, a flat track and was thinking to bump Australia destroying test cricket by flat tracks thread and suddenly they destroyed themselves.:giggle:

so did johnson..he actually won against south africa to me win against number 1 side away from home counts more? and ashwin will play in south africa and we wil see for our selves so lets not hype too much he is very good lower order batsman but his 2 100's came against windies and did he not struggle against australia at home ?

Can you list JOhnosn's knocks in India? Johnsons averages 71 in SA.. So is he better than Tendulkar? You have to look at his performances in other parts. In Srilanka 6.80, In India 11.90, In England 15, In West Indies 18.33, In NZ 2 innings 0 runs, In Australia 26. Sure Ashwin doesn't have much samples. But his average in India is 43.35 , his average in Austarlia 32.60. I am just putting it out for your benefit. With or without averages Ashwin looks much closer to a specialist batsman than Johnson ever going to be.

Didn't he do well against Aussies in their own backyard. Third best batsman in that series.

third best means nothing when your best was not good enough to get into australian side based on performances :)(statistically ) based on one series in australia is better but you ignore johnson's performance in south africa in 2 different series in 2 different scenarios

An Australian doing well in SA is no big deal considering conditions are similar. Even Greg Blewett smacked 214 there against Donald and co. He is a hitter. Considering the poor spinning options of SA and smaller grounds his stand and whack style suits on bouncier tracks.

Johnson is like Bhajji, Broad, and Swann who can have some brilliant batting performances but cannot be relied upon. Ashwin if you give him responsibility, he has the technique of a proper batsmen to trust him.

You are dead on about how he is like Bhajji. Bhajji also saved India with 2 centuries. He also whacked Steyn all over in one of the test in SOuth Africa. They get their moments. Not a proper batsman. Irafn pathan vs Mitch who looks like a proper batsman. Definitely Irfan. Bhajji vs Mitch who looks like a proper batsman? Neither. Both depends on slogging. Even today he slogged Swann for 47 runs out of 64 runs.

if you saw those matches you will know how good that 40 * was
It is about mitch performance in Ashes.. so it is fairly relevant :winky:
yep..:--D
