zep1706 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Most of the ODIs played on roads only. Remember Sharjah roads. Not many has achieved since Viv. While you are chasing any road can become a minefield because of pressure. There is absolutely no comparison between the pitches they get in ODIs in India now and what they used to be like some years ago. A few years ago a 270-280 pitch was considered flat. Now that's a below par score on most ODI pitches in India. I am not trying to belittle Kohli's achievements, he's one of the best chasers I have seen but that is the truth.

Pakistan produced tracks where you can play 5 days without losing a wicket but for biased umpiring and doctored balls. Zaheer Abbas averaged 47.62 in ODis with a strike rate of 84. only difference is attitude, fear of not losing wickets And also there used to be a set pattern whether wicket was flat or not. Go slow upto 40th over and explode at the end. Srikkanth did manage to score quickly on the same strip where Ravi Shastri was blocking everything. When necessary , with right attitude people could do even in that era. In one of the one dayer Pakistan needed 75 runs in 6 overs i think back in the mid 80s. That is a tough ask even now with not many wickets. Even in T20. Salim Malik bulldozed into Kapil dev and Maninder and made that possible. Even in the 90s attitude was not there. Only after T20 people started looking at ODI chase in a different light. Split it into 2 - T20 matches and a 10 over plus.

And I guess that batting powerplay is crucial as well. But then again when Kohli is on song, batting powerplay doesnt matter that much.

vvvslaxman Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64220.html How about this for an attitude lol Amarnath, Shastri epic phainty 18 overs 156 runs they conceded lol. Vinay kumar of those days. They scored like 226 runs 26 overs.. Jamshedpur crowd threw stones at them. They were one of the worst behaved crowd those days. Mind you . This was a super super patta wicket.
GoldenSun Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Yup chasing total like 321 inside 36 overs is a tough ask in any era. with or without power play I would say, somewhere around late 2009 ish, India started to show how they could divide chases in half and split them into 2 T20 games. If anything, IPL has benefited Indian cricket regarding chases and exposure. Players are no longer afraid of chasing huge totals.

vvvslaxman Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Sami aslam will break this record. Considering how pakistan maintains the rich tradition of going slow for 40 overs and attacking in the last 10 overs, it will take 2 or 3 pakistan batsmen collectively to get to 5000 runs
vvvslaxman Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 and I also see that Sunny played a Test match innings there :cantstop: This was considered to be a revenge series for Windies. They just could not stomach World cup loss to India. That losing 3 out of 4 consecutive matches to India was a horrible feeling for them. They literally massacred us in both Test and ODI series. Mohinder was the worst affected. The man of the match in final. 3 tests 6 innings 5 ducks and a single lol

I think especially Holding HATES India for us ruining their hat trick of wins. I think he cannot stomach that loss.
vvvslaxman Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Guys like Richards, Gilchrist, Sehwag were born to give life to cricket by freely expressing themselves. More power to guys like them. Kohli has similar swagger in one dayers. VIv had that swagger even in Tests.

However, I completely agree. Richards I remember, said how he "felt like an artist".

Sunny had a epic 236 in Madras in that series and 90-ball 100 in Ahmedabad.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 How many International matches did he play ?? forget about breaking the records, first let him step in the International arena Sami aslam will break this record.
vvvslaxman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Amla is going to beat this record comfortably. 38 innings matter of just 1300 odd runs needed to break this record.
GrandMasterSaxy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Records are meant to be broken...someone else will come (hopefully from India) and break Amla's record :two_thumbs_up: Amla is going to beat this record comfortably. 38 innings matter of just 1300 odd runs needed to break this record.
vvvslaxman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I have never seen Amla producing these pulverising Kohlisque knock in one dayers. But he is amazingly consistent. Being an opener is an added advantage.
