Are Olympic Medals overrated in India?

I have seen many people criticizing Cricket and Indian cricketers (For getting so much Hype from fans) just because Cricket is not a part of Olympics. My question is that Are Olympics medals overrated in India compares to other countries???

Nah, we value them. Chinese won't even know who all won gold for them, let alone silver and bronze.(Its a different thing that the names/faces don't help either)

Mob mentality of Indians especially on facebook is to share a cricketer photo besides a kabaddi player photo with a caption " Olympic winner... taking auto, cricketer going in a car" .. Once a guy shares something like this then it spreads like wild fire. Without doing basic research why certain sports is a hit, why certain sports is not a hit in a country. Imagine an USA guy coming up with a picture "Cricketers don't even have their own kits/ but basketball player is driving a pors che" In an attempt to develop a sports they put down another sports.

:hysterical: There are lot of cricket haters .I remember when Jamaica's no.6 sprinter won medal in CWG. One of the ex athlete on Tv was more happy that Jamaicans abandonded cricket than any other thing

its a continuous reminder every 4 years how woefully overmatched and unathletic the indian sportsperson is. i bet even if they have qualifiers for qualifiers these guys still can't make it. apparently every man, woman and child from the western countries runs faster, swims faster and jumps higher than an indian 'pro'

overrated because we don't win many of them. I always hope tht some Indian(some times imagine myself winning ) wins 100m gold and talks about medal-count's worthlessness and olympics sports' lame-ness to Indians and to the world.

Well I dont think that Olympics is PINNACLE of Sports.It is highly overrated.I mean some of the most famous sports like baseball ,cricket,Golf,F1,American football and rugby are not even part of olympics. Even when it comes to football, Not even a single Star players from Top teams play in olympics.I find it soo irritating when people rate dhyan chand more than sachin just because of olympics medal

Even when it comes to football, Not even a single Star players from Top teams play in olympics.I find it soo irritating when people rate dhyan chand more than sachin just because of olympics medal[/quote'] Dude Olympics cannot have all sports .Its the biggest sporting event in the world,Countries are measured on that parameter.Regarding dhyan chand he was hope of india at that time pre independence and he sure did deliver and his achievements make him equal or even greater than sachin.
