I hope Rohit does not take 2 years to come to terms with test cricket. It took him 5 years to come to terms with ODI. We have a fragile batting line up and cannot afford to have two dead weights in the batting line up, along with Dhoni and Jadeja. This practically leaves us with just 3 scoring options and Vijay. We will struggle to win any games if both Rohit and Dhawan continue to fail.

On serious note, Onus is on Vijay and Sharma to improve that average in England. THey will be under lot of pressure. Actually all the players would be including Pujara and Kohli and Dhawan, but Vijay and Sharma have poor average which they need to fix.

Vijay has done well to negotiate the new ball even if he hasn't scored many runs. His contribution is at least 10 times more than Rohit's. He has done the 'ugly' job, so to say.

There are lot of players who are waiting to come and if someone is failing to put big scores, then he will be dropped and rightly so I guess. I am with Vijay though, and I hope he is given few more tests, and agree with you as you said that he did good in patches. Problem with arrive when Dhawan fails in an inning and he fails and India has a poor start and people will check at Vijay's average which would be low. Things get noticed when team is not doing good, here team is looking for a good result finally and Vijay can take a breather. But few more failures, he will be under the radar.

Also, the two of them(openers) haven't clicked together and we don't get a good start even if one of them plays well. It's a strange case where the openers are doing their job individually yet we aren't really getting good opening stands. And it will be great of he can improve his slip catching. He is a brilliant outfielder but the catch he dropped at Auckland probably cost us the match. Either he improves, or he doesn't stand in slips.

Yes, after a good South Africa tour for Pujara, everyone thought he will be the deal. Unfortunatley, Pujara wasn't at his best on this tour. It's a short series and to be honest, he didn't really have any much of practice unlike other players who played in ODI'S, but we still expected a lot more from Pujara. Hopefully by England, all players would have gelled together. RIght now, we are still not gelling well I guess. We look like a nice young team when on the field and celebrating wickets, but when batting, our players still aren't taking great team responsiblity together. I guess it will happen with time.

True. Same goes for Kohli. These guys playing int'l cricket for the first time in any place they go. It was their first tour of SA, now first tour of NZ and later it will be first tour of Eng. We should give them some time. I do hope none of our practice games in Eng are washed out or something and we get full practice so that the boys are ready before the first test. We normally take time to settle down as a team overseas and that can hurt us with the momentum. Hopefully this team will change that tradition.

Batting has done much better than was expected from them. Give this top 6 the two tours of Eng and Aus as well. No need to disturb them except for swapping Rohit and Rahane's batting positions.

Its fair to say that for me Pujara, Rahane and Kohli Dhawan are now nailed on to be the part of our test side. Not convinced on Mooli, however will give him more chances as he IMO has seen off the new ball. The primary role of an opener.
