Some years back, a car with a diplomatic number plate jumped a traffic light in Delhi. The police inspector gave chase on his motor bike and asked the driver to stop but was ignored. He kept chasing it until the car had to stop behind other cars at the next traffic light. Out stepped a foreign diplomat with his passport held open for the inspector to see that he had diplomatic status. This is where it becomes interesting, and justice desi style. The haryanavi police inspector slapped the diplomat hard. Then he looked at his passport, carefully folded it back and returned it to him with ‘Thank You very much Sir, you can go’. Don't know if it is a true story. I heard it from some one who heard it from some one. Obvious lie. Slapping a diplomat would create a huge political ruckus. No one - in any state - would dare slap a foreign diplomat.

You made a general comment against an entire race. :omg: 1. She is not ugly for a 40 yo mother of 2. If she is ugly, then a vast majority, almost all of 40 yo Indian women are ugly. I didn't mean to seem a racist. I apologize if I came across as one. 2. This is not a thread to make comments abt looks and body odor. Thats my humble opinion.

If he is of a similar rank to Devyani then how is it that he has diplomatic immunity and can't be arrested unless it is waived. Where is reciprocity

So at least they let her go without putting her in jail. Rest is still under progress, I don't see anyone claiming victory

There is nothing wrong in paying someone comparable salary to what they would get at home if their money is sent for remittences and they have their foreign expenses paid for. Many nations do this, otherwise every single non-western nation's ambassador is failing to meet minimum wage standards. The only difference is, Devyani was foolish enough to get into a personal contract instead of a government one with her maid.
