rkt.india Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 We rarely play all spin attack in India either.one pacer is there atleast.such extreme one type attacks are rarely picked as captains go for balance. I didn't say we knew Ashwin would be useless, but it wasnt a surprise. It could have been Ashwin picking 2-3 wickets and Ishant going wicketless.ofcourse Ashwin should've done better but even without his contributions we had enough overs and runs to play with to get wickets Didn't they do it in first innings when pitch was fresh but pitches in SA usually flattens out on 4th and 5th day as they do not break because of grass and that it is when you need an extra seamer or a spinner who can contribute in taking wickets. You cannot expect 3 bowlers to pick 20 wickets.
Lord Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Yeah in India you get reverse swing and on turner we play 3 spinners But point is using ur logic should be don't drop any fast bower when we play at home on turner and go with just ashwin ? It's kind of similar of u ask me..we are getting green track here and ash win cannot pick a wicket on day 5 of test match ..sounds like we are going in with wrong type of bowler As I said, captains always go for balanced attack rather than one type as they expect wicket to change over time.or just to have option to change things around when nothing is happening.but it doesnt always happen like that.Ashwin obviously didnt get as much help even on 5th day as we previously expected.pacers still were getting help though, especially Shami.so they could have done the job imo

It wasn't as flat for fast bowlers even yesterday imo.Shami was getting movement all day.Duminy was troubled in his short stay too.obviously once batsmen get set it tends to look flat. we could have tried some things like Zak coming over the wicket etc.
ruchi49 Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Our bowlers done a good job,but it is not better, they do their best but
Old guy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 As I said' date='captains always go for balanced attack rather than one type as they expect wicket to change over time.or just to have option to change things around when nothing is happening.but it doesnt always happen like that.Ashwin obviously didnt get as much help even on 5th day as we previously expected.pacers still were getting help though, especially Shami.so they could have done the job imo[/quote'] All 4 bowlers we have are different It's not one dimensional attack we have zack who is left arm quick,I shan't is tall and gets bounce while shami is nippy bowler who swings the ball Umesh is quicker than all of them and lot more dangerous too but can be expensive Also 3 bowlers are not enough ..ashwin has never in his career bowled well on tracks with no help he is no warne or no Kumble even ...and if he cannot pick wicket then better let some one play who will...3 bowlers are not enough and even South Africa showed that ,England also faced same problem when Barbie got injured ..u need 4 quick bowlers in conditions with no help for spinners

putrevus Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Both. On a fresh pitch' date=' 3-men attack works but not when pitch flattens out and bowlers have to bowl more. Then it becomes for one bowler to run through so in that situation, it is essential that all bowlers pickup wickets. There is a reason, Aus team was so successful. All 4 bowlers could take wickets and that made them invincible.[/quote'] that Aussie team has to be appreciated, they won 16 tests in a row twice in in six year span, They never had an all rounder in that team so basically it was a 4 man attack for most part.

kruiser Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I just loved the intensity of our pacers even late into the final session - they were tireless, not giving any loose balls. Seen such display of long + controlled spells after a long time (may be for the first time) by an Indian team.. Way to go!! :hatsoff: Zak, Shami & Ishant We did miss the 4th pacer though..
Lord Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Dude 3 pacers is even more risky if ashwin again flops And I am confident we will bowl them out other than I shan't all fast bowlers are genuine wicket takers we have to back Ashwin or play Ojha/Jaddu imo.not convinced with all pace attack I'shant :giggle:
Old guy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 we have to back Ashwin or play Ojha/Jaddu imo.not convinced with all pace attack I'shant :giggle: Why is that ? I am gonna troll u if we play 2 spinners at home cos I am uncomfortable with just 2 quicks:winky: Come on just pick people based on track and pick team most suitable to pick 2 wickets Ash win or jaddu won't pick wickets so it's useless and other Bowles would have to bowl more If track spins play ashwin ...if it's a turner even drop ishant ..it's very simple really
rkt.india Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 that Aussie team has to be appreciated' date=' they won 16 tests in a row twice in in six year span, They never had an all rounder in that team so basically it was a 4 man attack for most part.[/quote'] That is because all four could pick wickets. Old guy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 That is because all four could pick wickets. They never played any one to hold end one up. Exactly all of them were champion bowlers Now same side would rather play 4 quick bowlers rather than a spinner who holds runs in South Africa
rkt.india Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 India-421 SA-450/7 I thought Ashwin bowled better than Tahir bhai. Did I say Tahir was better. Tahir wont play next match. Wrt to Ashwin, even Raina would have bowled as good as Ashwin.

Ashwin or Jaddu can picks wickets here too.Ashwin had a bad match.try Jaddu or Ojha imo. also look at it this way Ashwin had a bad match still was able to tie an end up.but Yadav or Ishant can easily leak runs too if it doesnt go their way.
Lord Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 also there is an over rate issue with playing 4 pacers.Dont want Dhoni banned
rkt.india Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 It wasn't as flat for fast bowlers even yesterday imo.Shami was getting movement all day.Duminy was troubled in his short stay too.obviously once batsmen get set it tends to look flat. we could have tried some things like Zak coming over the wicket etc. Shami troubled them because he was quicker and skidding around off, moving both ways.

No you..cannot compare spinners and quick bowlers like that There are always more quick bowlers playing than spinners..you can live with all quick attack but not all spin attack unless pitch is totally under prepared And you guys are thinking I personally hate ashwin or anything it's not true it's about picking4 guys who can all pick wickets if one of them can't then replace him with someone who can in given conditions At home opposite will Helen and alone of 2 pacers even after performing well will be dropped cos spinners are more effective...why don't use same logic here ?

This is defensive mindset which is setting up back. At Perth, we suffered not because we played 4 pacers, but because we played Vinay Kumar. Ashwin played 3 tests in Aus, what special he could have done at Perth if he had played and he could not do in those 3 tests. At Perth, we bowled poorly at the started and when we started getting it right, we picked their 10 wickets in less than 150 runs after 220 for no loss.
