Who should be our slip catchers?

I was so annoyed, frustrated and in disbelief when we dropped Smith and Du Plessis. These drops hurt more in tests and we need to take any and every chance. Should ashwin remain in slips? He doesn't seem to be the alert type though he has good hands I'd have kohli, vijay for sure. Who else? Indian team needs to work on this as we dropped catches in the ODIs as well

Kohli also drops many Tbh these guys will take some time to adjust most of them are normally good fielders and we are just missing oldies who use to field in slips

They all drop but they overall are all terrific fielders and catchers. Only thing is that slip catching sometimes is a whole new thing which requires lot of focus. Some of the best fielders who try to sledge the batsman don't have that much focus. Rohit and Kohli are one of those players who are backing the bowlers up and saying things like "Well bowled. shabash" etc stuff to encourage the bowlers and hence are good to have around point, covers etc for now as they focus more on those things and might just lose that focus when they are on slip because overthere they have to be as sharp as a wicket keeper who is always in the game. Though I still feel Kohli is one of the best slip fielder to spinners and also is one of the bes in the team currently who can field at slip So here is my slip cordon - Kohli-Vijay-Pujara. Rohit at point. Ashwin at gully

Anyone but ashwin at first slip, guy doesnt have basic understanding of slip fielding, when the pitch offers low bounce one must always stand up a foot, this is his second costly mistake on the tour dropping DeKock in the 3rd odi and Smith today in exact same manner.

Catches win matches. So drops are a big problem in Tests. Now - it will become a second innings shootout (assuming we get SA all out for 280, and no centuries by Faf and Philander and 30-45 by Steyn/Morkel. If Faf and Phil score real big scores, then it will be dumb!).

That's a good point you make about rohit and kohli. I think we had a good field with 5 slip catchers, so then you need rohit and kohli but if its 3 the kohli and vijay would feature and it would have to be ashwin or pujara. Ashwin isn't as athletic anyway so he gets more hate but rohit dropped a dolly.. that's inexcusable. He would be better around the bowler. Yeah they will get better and they need to cause there will be more chances overseas than in india

Not Rohit' date='not because he dropped a catch today but because [b']he is our 2nd best Fielder after Jadeja and we need him at backward point

Dropped catches have become a real pain now :(( 30 missed chances (drop catches, missed stumpings, missed run out chances) since the Eng series i.e 11 tests including this one. So thats on an average about 3 missed chances every match!
