thats just NDTV mind you. I think most others (Headlines today etc and CNN-IBN- ABP news) are predicting SAD-BJP alliance ahead. Interestingly the NDTV opinion poll is predicting big BJP performance in karnataka. While others are not. There are a lot of discrepancies in the NDTV poll with other major polls.

Punjab: The ruling SAD-BJP is still ahead of the Congress in Punjab. According to Lokniti-IBN National Tracker poll, the SAD will get 34 per cent votes and the BJP has the backing of 11 per cent in the state. The Congress has got 27 per cent support and the AAP has got an impressive 14 per cent backing.

One interesting seat will be Chandigarh - Kirron Kher for BJP vs Pawan Bansal for Cong vs Gul Panag for AAP.
I think another interesting will be ghaziabad. Rajbabbar from congress vs sangeet som from bjp vs shazia ilmi of AAP

Some more interesting battles ahead: Chandni Chowk - Sibal (hasn't been announced but he will most certainly be the Cong candidate) vs Dr. Harsh Vardhan vs Ashutosh. Madhepura - Sharad Yadav vs Pappu Yadav Mumbai North West - Priya Dutt vs Poonam Mahajan

yeah. Its a tough one for BJP - precisely why Rajnath Singh ran away.

I am very surprised the BJP decided to field Harshvardhan from the lok sabha. Short term thinking. With goel in the Rajya sabha IMO Harvardhan should have been the face of the delhi bjp in spear heading civic and assembly polls. Not sure what the ground reality is but it appears to me that its going to be a close 3 way fight.

I also think that Mumbai north west Priya dutt should hold on. Just about . Wrong choice in Poonam Mahajan. That area shiv sena is stronger. The only thing i can think of is that the BJP candidate means that the MNS should back off. Looking at mumbai's distribution, the sena have fielded candidates from lok sabha constituencies with a strong gujarati presence. While the bjp have fielded candidates from a traditionally strong sena regions. It has to do with blunting the MNS treat. The fate of the congress-ncp combine in mumbai will be determined by AAP. If AAP gets like 5-6 % of the vote many sena-bjp candidates will sneak in. Could be 6-0

election trivia - Did you know Atal Vajpayee forfeited his deposit in the 1952,1957 and 1984 lok sabha elections. He won from another constituency in 1957. I knew he lost but he also lost his deposit 3 times...

BJP candidates list shows that it loves dynastic politics too http://scroll.in/article/bjp-candidates-list-shows-that-it-loves-dynastic-politics-too?id=658714

Last November, Narendra Modi addressed a political rally in Chhattisgarh in the run up to the state assembly polls. He mocked dynastic politics in the Congress by claiming that had Raman Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister, been a Congress politician, his son would have received a party ticket. On Saturday, Raman Singh’s son, Abhishek, indeed got a party ticket, and his father did not have to switch parties for that. Thirty two-year-old Abhishek Singh, BJP’s candidate from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, is a post-graduate from XLRI Jamshedpur. His political experience is limited to assisting his father, and yet, he edged out the current BJP MP from the constituency, Madhsudhan Yadav. A senior leader who won the 2009 elections with a thumping margin of 119,074 votes, Yadav stood a bright chance of winning again, according to political observers in the state. “But it was difficult to turn down Abhishek’s name since Ramanji has won three elections for the party,” said a BJP leader in Chhattisgarh, on the condition of anonymity. Another chief minister who wrested three victories for BJP could be similarly rewarded. Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wife is likely to get a ticket to contest the Madhya Pradesh assembly by-election from Vidisha. In the assembly polls in December, Chouhan had contested and won from two constituencies – Budhni and Vidisha. He retained Budhni and gave up Vidisha. But it appears the constituency might well remain within the family. You don’t need to win three consecutive elections for the BJP to get a party ticket for a family member. Jayant Sinha, the son of Yashwant Sinha, a senior BJP leader who has served as India’s finance minister, is in the fray from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. An alumnus of IIT and Harvard Business School, 50-year-old Jayant Sinha has had a long and successful corporate career, but as a disgruntled BJP worker told Hindustan Times, “Degrees from international universities are no criteria to become a popular politician and good administrator.” Another political scion fielded by the BJP is Anurag Thakur, the son of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Anurag Thakur has been re-nominated from Hamirpur, which he won in 2009. Dushyant Singh, the son of Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, is also likely to get re-nominated from Jhalawar constituency. Dushyant Singh won the assembly polls in 2004 and the Lok Sabha polls in 2009. A BJP spokesperson, who did not wish to be named, said the party could not ignore the "winnability" of political scions. But that does not explain why even those who have lost elections for the party have been rewarded with tickets. Poonam Mahajan, the 33-year-old daughter of late Pramod Mahajan, has been nominated by BJP from Mumbai North-West constituency, even though she lost the 2009 assembly polls by a margin of 24,966 votes. Reflecting on dynastic politics in India, Nandini Deo, assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Lehigh University, Philadelphia, wrote, “By eating away at democracy within political parties, it has undermined competition between political parties and given us a class of politicians both incompetent and entitled, who view political office as a means to secure ill-gotten wealth and prestige rather than as a form of public service.” The extent of dynastic politics in India can be gauged by the startling statistic: Two-thirds of current Lok Sabha MPs under the age of 40 have a near relative in politics. And yet, as the writer Patrick French pointed out in this article, the most significant leaders in contemporary India – Mamata Banerjee, Manmohan Singh, Mayawati, Nitish Kumar, J Jayalalithaa, Sharad Pawar and Narendra Modi – are not dynasts. “Although hereditary clout has become normalised in Indian democracy, it may turn out to be the least successful trait in flourishing at the higher reaches of national leadership,” he argued. But then, not everyone wants to aim for the higher reaches when they can get the low-hanging fruit.

I personally dont mind sons and daughters becoming MP/MLA. Its a bit like the Democrats and Republicans in the USA. Yes there are the Bushes and the Kennedys or even the Clintons. But they dont monopolize the party for decades.

Mumbai North Central is one of the safest seat for Congress. Only seat where the Congress victory margin Last Loksabha was greater than the combined votes of (BJP+SS ) and MNS. General Election, 2009: Mumbai North Central Party Candidate Votes % ±% INC Priya Sunil Dutt 3,19,352 48.04 BJP Mahesh Ram Jethmalani 1,44,797 21.78 MNS Shilpa Sarpotdar 1,32,555 19.94 Majority 1,74,555 Turnout 6,64,647 INC hold Swing http://www.firstpost.com/politics/priya-poonam-make-mumbai-north-central-a-battle-of-daughters-1437963.html

AAP will hardly be a factor here as most the constituency is urban. Hopefully people vote tactfully either for MNS or SS and avoid splitting of votes.

thats not so simple. That constituency is of special interest to Ramdas Athvale. That is one place where the RPI is destined to impact the elections. I do believe Athvale did indeed win in the lok sabha from there. RPI has about 15-20% of the vote there. The RPI did not do much in the lok sabha last time around. this time they are very much in the midst of the battle as Athawle can see a cabinet seat for himself. Dont go just by past results. The MNS is also going to back off considering its a BJP candidate. That is going to be the case in most Mumbai seats. RPI is going to be the decisive say + a natural BJP gain in % across the board especially in places with large % of Gujus like ghatkopar + the AAP effect working against the congress. Thats like 10%. Enough to swing most seats in the city.

Kolkata: Accusing BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi of being an "opportunist", prominent city cleric Maulana Barkati on Tuesday asked Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee to be more critical of Modi in order to prove her secular credentials. The Imam of city's Tipu Sultan Mosque, Maulana Barkati, said, "We know she is secular but if Mamata Banerjee wants to prove her secular credentials, she should be more aggressive and critical about Modi. Rahul Gandhi has been critical of Modi, we want Mamata Banerjee also to come out openly in criticising Modi." The cleric's comment comes at a time when all political parties are aggressively trying to woo Muslims for their 28 per cent minority votes, which is a deciding factor for 28-30 seats of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
