kubrickian Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 India is the only country which plays with SG ball and this ball varies quite a bit from Kookaburra or Duke's. SG ball stops swinging after a few overs and then seamers have to rely on reverse swing and also helps spinners a lot whereas Duke's ball is the one which swings the most. Kookaburra also helps seamers but spinners find it much more difficult to bowl. Doesnt this hamper bowlers in India who play most of their cricket with a certain ball and then having to adjust when they travel abroad ? We are at a serious disadvantage here. Its time we switch to Kookaburra or Duke's ball so we can learn how to bowl with it and possibly adapt much better when we travel.

This is a topic i wanted to discuss as well. He did very well in 2010. We play Duleep Trophy with Kookaburra ball. I think Rahul Dravid made this suggestion.

I dont understand why we only play with SG ball when all other countries play with Kookaburra or Duke's. I think our bowlers will always find it tough to adapt because we play Australia or England once every 3 years or so and the rest of the time we play with the red SG ball even in tests or Ranji trophy.

When Srinivasan was once asked about the series losses in Eng and Aus, he said India would beat them when they come here and so we shouldnt care if we lose overseas. That's the mentality of the people who run BCCI.

I do believe Rahane himself said that he gained confidence from playing Sa A in South Africa. So the BCCI are trying. Dont take everything what people say to the media at face value. These media vultures hound you for a comment. On the issue of the balls, its an interesting point. Not only our pacers but even somebody like Ashwin for example needs to bowl regularly with the Duke/Kookabura. I think india have a large domestic game to play with all three balls. Ranji is played with SG/Dukes while the Kookabura is used for Duldeep? But realistically I think more A tours away are needed.

Jadeja 6 wickets. Captain has won overseas but not against the bigger teams, so ia gree. Board is corrupt but selectors have done a decent job. Can't be perfect but they make changes faster. Still.. having ishant is ridiculous. I think changing the ball is just to help all types of cricketers.
rkt.india Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Yesterday, I was watching a Fox sports program about Ashes on Star sports 1 where Mcgrath said he would want to bowl with Duke ball all the time.
