For every David Johnson selected there is Ashish Zaidi. For every Debang Gandhi selected,there is Amol Mujumdar.

if you go by domestic record we should have SS Tiwary as he is the forth highesh rungetter in ranji ss tiwary 7 matches 854runs KM Jadhav 10 matches 1074 i think tiwary is better if he has played more matches he might have scored more than jadhav can we have the hack back ? stop blaming the selector they cannot do anything it is dhoni `s mistake he keeps playing his friends current selectors are selecting good player based on technique and form

First of all if two players have similar stats then you look at other factors but if the stats are so much in favor of one player (e.g., Pujara & Jadhav averaging 50+ whereas others averaging mid 30s) then the folks who performed better deserve to get a chance to showcase their skills. If not what's the point of domestic cricket? Also, if a player like Tiwary outdistances his peers by as large a margin as Pujara and Jadhav have done in List A cricket he deserves to get a chance as well. I'm all for selectors making a pick between players with similar records (say Player A averages 52 and Player B averages 48 and they pick Player A for intl duty) but if the gulf in domestic is as vast as Pujara & Jadhav's compared to other contenders, it defeats the purpose of domestic setup. Selection is not an exact science but when you have seen enough (Rohit & Rahane) and their intl stats have mirrored their List A stats it should be clear others need to be given a chance. If not how else will the team improve and what sort of message will be sent to domestic players? Do we want to tell the players who ply their trade at domestic level that no matter how you perform the spots national team are already taken up and they don't even have a chance of breaking into the team. Players who are in form or who perform consistently at domestic level have to be given a chance in the national team as at the very least they have earned the right to succeed or fail at intl level.

Mujumdar can be deemed unlucky as his career coincided with India's "Big 4" or galacticos and it was tough to get a chance as a batsman. It's the same thing as Rajinder Goel not getting a look in despite being the highest wkt taker at Ranji level when India's spin quartet was on the scene, or WI pace bowlers who couldn't break into WI team in 80s coz of all the fast bowling talent they had or even folks like Stuart Law, Martyn Love and others never getting too many chances with Aussies in 90s and 2000s coz they had a settled all-time XI. But the way Zaidi was treated was unforgivable. He was supposedly the fastest indian pacer when he was around and we weren't exactly spoilt for choice at the pace bowling spot. He could have helped India possess a decent fast bowling attack along with Srinath and to a lesser extent Prasad but he never got an opportunity to do so.

Here are the records of 5 batsmen in List A cricket. Surprizingly the top 3 on the list averaging in mid 30s are in the national team whereas the two guys averaging in 50s are actually languishing at home watching the team flounder on TV. I don't think selectors of any country can get it so wrong and I doff my hat to the selectors :hatsoff:

Do you really think Kedar Jadhav is better than Rahane/Rohit or Rayudi in ODI's ..if stats are the only basis ,then why do we need the selectors ..compile a list of players for each position and select the one with the top stats in that position .. THe reason for the skewed stats is beause Rahane& Rohit have played very little List A 's and mostly INTL. ODI's whereas Jadhav and Pujara have played domestic list a's only ..I do , however , think that Pujara should be in as opener or no.4 in ODI's provided his knee holds up :nice:

When a player's intl average mirrors List A cricket it means their intl performances are in line with domestic performances and it's a pretty decent sample size. I do believe Pujara at the top and Jadhav in middle order would be an upgrade on Rohit and Rahane especially when you see Jadhav's SR of 106 in List A cricket while averaging 51!!! As I mentioned in my previous post that selection is not an exact science and I'm fine with selector opting for a player averaging 48 in place of a guy averaging 53 in domestic matches. But when the difference is so stark as shown between Pujara/Jadhav and Rohit/Rahane, it does make you question the whole selection process. I mean if someone like Jadhav can't even get a chance in the team despite averaging 51 in List A cricket at a SR of 106 and you have guys averaging mid 30s at a much lower SR established in the team, it does send a very negative message to other domestic players.

Vijay was given plenty of chances which he failed to take. Jadhav and Pujara deserve as much.

Anyone who has seen Dhoni bat would take likes of Manjrekar and Ramprakash ahead of him and we all know who should be ahead out of those 3. At the end of the day results and performances on the field matter, not how you look while doing so. Jadhav averaging 51 at a SR of 106 shows he's doing something right and deserves a chance.

He has not seen him play I doubt many have...he was totally in control match against Mumbai ...only made error near 100 and then too match was done and he was playing quickly

To be fair, he has a very good looking cover drive. Haven't watched Jadhav so not comparing.
