Old guy Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Please no more "classy" Rohit in odis :(( Lol....classy rohit will again score 200 in Odis on patta It has nothing to do with format it's pitches and his skill against moving ball and some fault in technique
Old guy Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 To be fair' date=' he has a very good looking cover drive. Haven't watched Jadhav so not comparing.[/quote'] Yeah I know jadhav is not ur classy cricketer he will play shots but won't look classy but they are effective and mostly orthodox He plants spinners over long on without much fuss but does not looks classy like rohit :winky: Raina actually has stopped playing his good shots on off side this guy was such a good timer of ball off front foot but now a days hangs back and I honestly cannot remember one inning where he has not poked like hack in last year
Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Lol....classy rohit will again score 200 in Odis on patta It has nothing to do with format it's pitches and his skill against moving ball and some fault in technique I doubt it's all due to pitch conditions. If that was the case he would have lit it up in List A but he averages mid 30s there as well. Rohit and Rahane are simply not made for LOIs/odis. They don't know how to pace the innings or rotate the strike in odis which is a must for being a successful odi batsman. They should get a long run in Test cricket where there's not much pressure to rotate strike or keep the scoreboard moving.
The Outsider Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Yeah I know jadhav is not ur classy cricketer he will play shots but won't look classy but they are effective and mostly orthodox He plants spinners over long on without much fuss but does not looks classy like rohit :winky: Raina actually has stopped playing his good shots on off side this guy was such a good timer of ball off front foot but now a days hangs back and I honestly cannot remember one inning where he has not poked like hack in last year Yeah Raina has been shot because of his short ball problem. Even in the recent match where he made a decent 36 off 24, he never looked assured. But before this patch his off side drives were not only effective, but pleasing on the eyes as well.
cowboysfan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Jadhav Definitely needs a chance in the Asia cup but I want him to play some A tours too.
mancalledsting Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 But he delivers. Anyone who has seen Dhoni bat would take likes of Manjrekar and Ramprakash ahead of him and we all know who should be ahead out of those 3. At the end of the day results and performances on the field matter' date=' not how you look while doing so. Jadhav averaging 51 at a SR of 106 shows he's doing something right and deserves a chance.[/quote'] I understand where your coming from, but when I said ungainly not only did I mean aesthetically I also meant in terms of a technique that would not be conducive to success at international level. You can get away with technical deficiencies at domestic level eg Phil Hughes, but at international level would more than likely be found out. I agree though shiv Chanderpaul, steve Waugh over Ian bell any day.

U know what we have been here before so I am not even gonna waste 1 minute on this topic as I have one exam left :--D but Here is my example u can join the line Rohit scored 100 after 100 Against Australia and West Indies on patta He scored hundreds against West Indies....so he is performing in both formats no trouble Now fly over to South Africa he is Shyte in Odis again and flops in tests badly which is his preferred for at ..infact in one match he starts slogging when wwe needed defence to save game Now in New Zealand he gets dropped in slips in one game, lbw is not given in next and is again dropped in third but still he cannot make runs...pressure or no pressure such struggles show problem in technique more than anything Yeah Raina has been shot because of his short ball problem. Even in the recent match where he made a decent 36 off 24' date=' he never looked assured. But before this patch his off side drives were not only effective, but pleasing on the eyes as well.[/quote'] Lol I remember during his test debut he was compared to tendulkar...he looked that classy :giggle:
mancalledsting Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Make no mistake Raina has silky off side drives. I remember India vs australia 1st test Mohali 2010 he put on a clinic in the first innings. Second innings got out fending a short ball- has not had anything pitched up to him since and hence we have never seen these lovely drives again
div Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Vijay was given plenty of chances which he failed to take. Jadhav and Pujara deserve as much. Don't think Pujara is an ODI player..Jadhav deserves some chances.
BeautifulGame Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Nowadays ODI selections are mostly based on IPL Performances. If Jadhev performs in IPL then he will get his chance.Same for Rishi Dhawan as well
Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 I understand where your coming from' date=' but when I said ungainly not only did I mean aesthetically I also meant in terms of a technique that would not be conducive to success at international level. You can get away with technical deficiencies at domestic level eg Phil Hughes, but at international level would more than likely be found out. I agree though shiv Chanderpaul, steve Waugh over Ian bell any day.[/quote'] There are plenty of exceptions to the aesthetics and technique rule. I can list likes of Chanderpaul, Dhoni, Bevan, Steve Waugh etc. Conversely I can list Manjrekar, Ramprakash, etc. who failed though they had supposedly better technique. It's the results which matter and Jadhav has done what he was asked to at domestic level. There's no guarantee he will succeed at intl level but at the very least he deserves to be given a chance to find out whether he fails or makes it in intl cricket. He should be given a couple of odi series to press his case and if he fails then you can go back to the next in line.
Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Don't think Pujara is an ODI player..Jadhav deserves some chances. Pujara is a pretty good top order odi batsman based on his List A record. He has shown the inclination to score big when set and hold one end up which is what you want from your top order batsmen in any format of the game. He should be paired with Dhawan to open with Kohli, Jadhav, Dhoni and Raina to follow.

Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Nowadays ODI selections are mostly based on IPL Performances. If Jadhev performs in IPL then he will get his chance.Same for Rishi Dhawan as well That's the sad part. T20, Odis and Tests are three separate formats and success in one doesn't guarantee success in others. I have no problems selecting a T20 squad based on IPL performances but for odis and Tests, List A and FC cricket performances need to be acknowledged.
Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Thing is he does not looks that bad:hysterical: I don't know why people are comparing him to dhoni he is not as classy as rohit but even sachin was not as classy as Lara ..He is guy with simple technique even I have not seen him bat much but whenever I have I never noticed big flaw which will immediately put him at disadvantage in odi cricket ..I am no expert but u can easily tell Raina has short ball problem but this guy looked ok even against bit of movement in air so he is not a hack To me the technique/aesthetics shouldn't even be a question. If a player has performed well in domestic cricket on a consistent basis for some time he deserves to be given a chance. There are no style points in professional sports and results should be the only criteria on which a player should be judged on.
Lord Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Around 80. Thats not great tbh.needs to be atleast 85

I have no problems selecting a T20 squad based on IPL performances but for odis and Tests, List A and FC cricket performances need to be acknowledged.[/quote'] Our ODD format is hardly perfect.Teams play within zone so often capitalize against rubbish bowlers .Like TN batsmen against Kerala and Andra bowlers. In IPL atleast they face against International standard bowlers and real pressure situations.
Ultimate_Game Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Thats not great tbh.needs to be atleast 85 Yup but he's a top order bat who keeps one end up. In Aus pitches the winning score is likely to be in the range of 250-280 so the SR of around 80 is perfectly fine as long as you give a good start to the team. As we saw in CT if openers lay a decent foundation for our middle order we can make it count.
