I would go with List A cricket performances when selecting squad for odis as odis require a different skill set. But trust me it is 10 times better than domestic ODs, even for judging players for ODIs despot the difference in format. I've watched a few domestic ODs. They are a joke. At times one gets the feeling club cricket might be a better barometer.

Still have a hard time trying to make sense that a lot on this board did not watch much cricket in the 90s. 80s I can understand. But yeah, Mark was definitely more 'classy' in the conventional sense. No arguments there. Steve was the test batsman I aspired to be given my fail in natural tailunt like Lara and Tendulkar. However, even replicating his quick back and across movement proved too much against probably 110-120 trundlers. Forget about what he did to Ambrose in '95. The guy did all but cry on the field. In India mostly young people use internet and most of them started watching cricket near 2000 so it's understandable that this site has many posters who have not seen much cricket in past but then u read lot of BS here too by people who have seen ..I won't take names but it can some times get ridiculous so I just prefer to stay out...

saneindian Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Zaidi actually came close to picking up all 10 wickets in a U-19 test vs Pakistan, ended with 9 wickets. A similar performance at U-19 level got Irfan Pathan straight into the national side! But then the selectors started picking up U-19 stars for the National Squad only in 2000. Having said that, likes of Zaidi and Muzumdar could never do well at a level higher than Ranji i.e Duleep Trophy and India A / matches against visiting sides (Zaidi aeraged 46 playing for Central Zone, Muzumdar averaged 24 for India A). May have been a factor in them not getting picked for national side.

That's the problem unjustness him in ipl slogfest in struggling team in lower order He has improved his batting a lot this season even technique outside off stump please watch so,em first class games before judging

tweaker Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Mujumdar can be deemed unlucky as his career coincided with India's "Big 4" or galacticos and it was tough to get a chance as a batsman. It's the same thing as Rajinder Goel not getting a look in despite being the highest wkt taker at Ranji level when India's spin quartet was on the scene, or WI pace bowlers who couldn't break into WI team in 80s coz of all the fast bowling talent they had or even folks like Stuart Law, Martyn Love and others never getting too many chances with Aussies in 90s and 2000s coz they had a settled all-time XI. But the way Zaidi was treated was unforgivable. He was supposedly the fastest indian pacer when he was around and we weren't exactly spoilt for choice at the pace bowling spot. He could have helped India possess a decent fast bowling attack along with Srinath and to a lesser extent Prasad but he never got an opportunity to do so. thank you
