Badrinath, an intrinsic part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise for six years, remained unsold at the end of the two-day Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Bangalore on Thursday. The Tamil Nadu batsman, understandably, appeared shattered by the outcome. “I am 100 per cent disappointed. It’s a blow to my chest. I really don’t know how to react. I have to look forward and stay positive. It’s important to move on,†he told The Hindu. While Badrinath wasn’t picked up by any team on Wednesday, a flicker of hope presented itself when his name came up for auction again on the second day. However, no franchise bid for him. “I was optimistic about being picked up at least the second time because initially teams generally have different options and go for them,†he said. Did he feel let down by CSK as it didn’t bid for him? “I have played 90-odd (95) games for CSK and I have a good record in the IPL. I am not blaming the CSK because they might have had something else in mind. I was disappointed because I didn’t receive a single bid from any franchise,†said Badrinath. Having set a base price of Rs. 1 crore for himself, did he limit his chances? “I don’t think it’s a factor. I had based it on my experience, my contribution and records.†When asked if members of the cricketing fraternity had got in touch with him, the 33-year-old replied in the negative. “No one has called me yet. I have only my family and very close friends for support.†Badrinath admitted he would miss being part of the IPL. “It’s been a big influence on my life and career. It’s hard to digest, but it’s not the end of everything. It’s probably the case only this year.†Contrasting feeling Meanwhile, on the other end of the emotional spectrum were B. Aparajith and Vijay Shankar, both of whom were picked up for Rs. 10 lakh each. “Since it’s the first time there’s an auction for uncapped players, I had no idea how it would pan out. I knew my name was to come up in the first lot in the morning. It was a different feeling to see my name in the auction. I am very happy to be playing for CSK again,†said the 19-year-old Aparajith. Vijay Shankar said he experienced a flush of thrill as his name was announced in the auction. “I was with my family watching the auction and there was anxiety. (But) It was all over in five seconds. I am thrilled to be a part of CSK.â€

Feel for this guy :sad: After being a 1st team player for one of the most successful team in IPL, suddenly not a single bid is gonna be disappointing. Base price of 1 crore was too high I guess

Few of my friends played with badrinath @ club level cricket said to me that he is very arrogant and selfish person. With such limited abilities, no wonder no team wants to pick him for one crore Rs. Just like dinda, he rates himself very high. If he was realistic, he should have priced himself low.

Fleming should have picked Badri,he played for CSK for past six years. :wall: Should have set his base price at 50L
Honestly have to feel sad for the guy..atleast they shoudl give him some explanation
Reflects very bad on CSK to dump a senior player like this.
I'm no CSK fan but here I think they are not wrong - if they thought that he was no longer good enough for t20, then whats so wrong in not picking him?

Badrinath only really came in handy when CSK played on tough 120-130 pitches. Otherwise he always killed their momentum. Last couple of seasons CSK actually were hiding him at 6-7-8. He didn't help his cause by setting his base price at 1 cr either. Should have kept it around 30-50L.

He has been consistent and fit the CSK mold. When CSK lost of couple of quick wickets, he would come and steady the ship which gave CSK a good opportunity to go into the last few overs with a few wickets at hand. He was one of the main difference between CSK and others in the first few seasons. When the others had venugopal rao, rayadu,Karthik or a tiwary in the middle order who would often fail, CSK had badri. The guy averages 30 @ nearly 120 SR which is still one of the best batting records in IPL. He has outperformed the likes of kallis, Dravid,Jayawardane, karthik, Jadeja etc in IPL. It is absurd that he wasn't picked. He has 11 50's in 67 innings in T20's. Although having played only 67 innings in 95 games shows that we wasn't always required. But nonetheless, he could have been very useful for teams with middle order instability.

Who sets the base price? Its the base price fault here. If it is the player himself who was involved in the calculation, it's idiotic of him. It's very fair to see teams not sign Badri with 1CR as the price.

On pitches with seam Badri >>> Raina and if IPL is played on some South African seaming decks... good luck Raina :D
Raina has a good record in IPL 2 there and even the T20 world cups.
