Team Dynamic looking ahead I think after this series, 5 bowlers are a must. We are currently playing 3.5 bowlers. jadeja in test match cricket is not a full fledged bowler. Zaheer is bound to be injured, Ishant sucks, and Shami is still raw. So in actuality, we literally DO NOT HAVE A BOWLING ATTACK. Let's look at our batting. It is now a must to find 6 (including the wicket keeper) batters that can score 400+, in any conditions. Shikhar (check) Vijay (performances in SA cannot be ignored, check) Pujara (check) Kohli (check) 4 spots are off the table. This leaves Rahane and Rohit Sharma. Rahane has scored 96 in Durban and a century here in Wellington. Meanwhile, Sharma has been unimpressive but for the test series in WI. It is difficult to drop either but IMO we only have room for one of those in our team. My choice is Rahane. Now, moving to the lower order. MSD isn't going anywhere. Let us accept this for now. Overseas, I would much prefer a technically better option in KKD. But in actuality Dhoni isn't all that bad. What we really need are two allrounders to play on either side of Dhoni. It is time we started to groom Jadeja as a batsman. We need to get him some valuable time out in the center. Challenge him to bat for a session, two sessions, a day. Score big hundreds. We know he is capable of it but right now in international cricket he seems to be nothing more than a glorified, tail end slogger. Maybe some ODI innings at number 4, now that Raina is gone, can help him get some confidence in his batting. MSD will slot in at 7. I think we would be fools to totally forget about Ashwin. Yes, it is true that he has struggled overseas with the ball. But which one of our bowlers hasn't?? We are still looking for a Kumble replacement - a spinner who can win matches for us abroad - just like Australia keeps shuffling through leg spinning options trying to unearth a new Warne. It is not going to happen overnight. i'm glad he was dropped, it will allow him to go back and reassess his skills, and hopefully improve. Next -- ICFs favorite category -- fast bowlers. I would much rather lose with prospects like Yadav than tried/tested alternatives. I was in the camp that Zaheer provides value with leadership and experience. But if his bowling is flat, this means nothing. The only positive from the last 6 months is Shami. Shami/Yadav/ and hopefully Ishwar Pandey (should he ever get a look in) should prove to be an effective fast bowling trio. I want to see Bhuvaneshwar develop and add to his skills. He has improved as a death bowler in the past series. Also, India should not be afraid to play 4 quicks. So, here is my team. In actuality, it is not much different from what we are playing now. But I think the key element is having 5 legitimate bowling options. Jaddu isn't magically gonna be tranformed in to a Test batsman/allrounder.Just doesnt have the ability.He'll always remain a bowler who can bat a bit.Ashwin is our best bet if looking for an allrounder. playing 5 bowlers means jack if 2 of them are spinners in overseas conditions rest agree with your post

as long as dhoni is there, you will not get a new captain or 4 pacers dhoni is not needed in tests. he sucks, plain end of story. we can add more runs and have a good wicket keeping option in dinesh karthik. Rohit sharma should go and stick to t20s where he has a great record. Lineup: Dhawan, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Rayudu, DK at 7. That is an awesome batting lineup and gives us 4 slots left 4 pacers on a fast wicket with dhawan/rayudu providing some spin. Pacers: Choose from yadav, shami, aaron, kulkarni, pandey, pankaj, bhuvi, (only ishant if he has fixed his issues)

Not bad. Gambhir ? better than Vijaya but still not ideal.. Dhoni Wk keeper. Rest I agree.

If he can somehow manage to avoid playing those pokes to third man, he is a class act. He will do well :hatsoff:
