Javagal Srinath's predictions about Indian fast bowlers ten years back

Irfan Pathan is a huge opportunity lost for India I have no doubts about it. He could have been the perfect fifth bowler/number 7 bat that India so desperately need to have success overseas. He is a perfect case of player mismanagement.
what mismanagement that is just cop out and letting that useless fellow pathan off the hook. Like Kapil dev once said people treat me as allrounder but my main job is bowling batting is always a bonus. Pathan never worked on his bowling to become better his batting was never going to be his calling card.

Irfan was never awesome once ball got old, Same thing with Ishant Sharma he never has wicket taking ability. We got fooled because no one was there when these bozos came up.One guy who looked like he can take wickets never gets a chance to get back into the country club for reasons totally unknown.

Balaji was always going to be one or two series wonder like much like Bhuvi.

Well, if your own captain even after your stellar wicket taking performances, comes out and repeatedly berates you for not bowling well in the death, what is a youngster to do? Of course you can see Bhuvi has focused completely on death bowling and saving runs. So now he is able to save runs but not take any wickets. Are you too blind to see his altered length which happened after he played for India? Or are you deliberately being ignorant? You can keep on thinking that our skilled bowlers, who are praised when they debut by some of the best judges of talent in the world, are all co-incidently one seris wonder. Or you can recognize that there is a deep rot in our structure when it comes to nurturing and grooming really talented bowlers Our maybe you can live in denial and give bowlers such labels to make yourself feel better. After all, if the source materials themselves are 'one-series wonders' as you put in, then BCCI, or the management or captain do not need to be blamed for anything and don't need to put in any effort or take any accountability. We just don't have good bowlers so what to do seems to be the mantra and the coward's way out instead of addressing the real problem of grooming good skilled bowlers

Or we simply grind our new bowlers to dead in his very first season that becomes too wary from the next season. He also knows that in India test cricket doesn't matter much. it is only LOIs that rule; hence all he needs is concentrate on containing runs and of course keeping himself alive. I wonder how Shami is alive till now. You take it from me that he too will forget taking wickets after this IPL.

You are mostly right about Bowlerd going defensive to stay in the team.Dhoni does have tendency to look for bowlers who give less runs and u cannot blame a youngster looking to stay in the team will follow captain advice who is supreme can over rule selectors. But he has to think that he will be made scapegoat when time comes .

if any of the bowlers had worked hard as Srinath' date=' the prediction might have been treu...[/quote'] Yes ,but really we hyped up irfan ,balaji .Irfan bowled one ball at 144ks to gilly and was hyped up as fast bowler .He was good against sub continent batsman but struggled against Batsman from eng,sa,aus .We should really judge bowlers against batsman from eng,sa,aus and some top players from sc teams.

that was not 144K, but 133.9, reverse swing, but he had such a godo side on action at that time and was bowling 135K with swing and accuracy but he lost it once he changed his action. He bowled one that clocked 144ks thats why the hype started.
No, he did not. His quickest was 140. There was no hype about his pace ever, but swing.

He was always a swing bowler who used to bowl in late 120s to early 130s but he was young then and gained pace gradually till he changed his action and he also lost his flexibility when he started doing gym workouts making his body stiff and prone to injuries.

Did anyone watch Asia Cup Series 2014 sponsored by Cycle Pure? If yes' date=' how did you like the match?[/quote'] :hysterical: What made you think anyone would care to answer .... On topic:This article provides great evidence of Jungle Srinath's lack of cricketing sense...Who the heck made this joker a match referee...:hitler:

I can see this from Srinath's perspective in 2004. In 2003 WC, we had a relatively astonishing bowling outfit w/ Srinath, Zak and Nehra bowling superbly (except in the final :P ). When bowlers try to pick wkts, they bowl with a different mind-set. Sooner or later, they produce the ball that does the trick Reflecting back, 2003-04 looks like a different era where bowlers such as Srinath were trying to pick wkts .... Cricket has changed since then, esp. Ind's approach to bowling where we have bowlers mainly trying to restrict and hoping for batsmen to make a mistake. This latest mindset has probably hurt Indian cricket, and crashed Srinath's optimism

Javagal Srinath's predictions about Indian fast bowlers Srinath was not wrong! It made sense then. I am sure all of us would have read the article in 2004, we would nod our heads in approval. Anyway lets watch the current ICC T20 and hope and pray India wins the trophy. The bowlers are doing a good job but they need to improve a lot more. Catching all T20 live updates online has never been this easy with www.starsports.com . I hope they win the series this year and regain the trust of fans.

The proudest bit for me of that series was how our rookies totally out bowled their vaunted Akhtar Sami pace attack...and then there was Sehwag :D
yes. Also the way we expected Irfan Pathan to take a wicket of the first two of his overs of the match. It was abnormal if that didn't happen Don't remember thinking that way ever again after than Only if Greg left him to be a bowler rather than try those all rounder stints One bowler seeing whom I definitely thought, ok we have our own miniature version of Wasim Akram

Bhuvi at his pace will be hit me anywhere bowler in last overs if team batting has wickets in hand.he has no attribute to suggest that he will be great in death overs.we have not seen him exhibit any death bowling skills anywhere in early spells, so i dont understand why you think i was trying to be ignorant. Bowlers like bhuvi will never win you a test series or be a difference maker for longer period that was my point if you think otherwise it is your choice. Are we hyping too much the players, only indians including myself as a fan hyped irfan to be next Akram but others merely said he is good for 19 year old. It is a open fact that as a nation we dont have in us to cultivate fast bowlers.unless we admit that fact and get some one who knows how to groom these guys we will always be the same boat. IMO first step is to unleash bowlers who have speed and tell them to attack and get wickets forget this line and length nonsense if they are hammered intially stick with them.
