hhunaeh Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Are doing all this for closure? I hope they are not planning to call of the search in a few more days. But it looks possible that they are planning to give up after the latest press conference by the malaysian pm.
zen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 It is easy to get direct flights to Europe from the region (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, ....). Why would someone need to fly to Beijing to catch an onward flight to Europe. MH016 flies direct to Amsterdam :hmmm:

zen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 what are u talking about? did u find something? Nothing new. But many passengers on that flight had to catch onward flight from Beijing for e.g. to Europe: The Iranians with fake passports had purchased their tickets from China Southern Airlines, which shared the flight with Malaysia Airlines, and they had consecutive ticket numbers. There is no reason to go through an additional check point at Beijing on fake passport when a lot of flights from the region fly direct to Europe (For e.g. MH016 is a direct flight to Amsterdam). Cases such as these are something the investigators should dig deeper in to (unless they just want to go by wanting to immigrate theory and as if people are going to reveal their true plans to everyone they talk to. There has to be a story to cover up a hidden agenda)

zen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Pretty sure such indirect flights are a fraction of the price of the direct flights I don't know the actual price difference b/w the two flights. For an avg tourist, price can be an issue but not when one is traveling on fake passport and that too to immigrate (career on the line). In that case savings < potential to get caught at a security check point (esp. when they could have payed a lot for the fake passport). Also the flight from Beijing to Europe would probably have been a direct one anyways Once when I had to fly to France from India - The AF flight from BOM was booked on the day. I took the Emirates to Dubai and then a flight from Dubai to France, a direct one to the place in France I was going too. In fact, this was not a bad option as if I flew from Ind I would have had to take a plane or train from CDG to the place I was going to anyways. The security at Dubai had asked me why I did not take a direct flight from BOM, and I had to explain. I wouldn't be surprised if the security/customs at Dubai ran my passport on their computers. I hope you get the crux of what I am trying to say.
Roshanrocks Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Rett u have a point :hmmm: Edit: ANy news about the deleted data from the pilot's home simulator?
zen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Rett u have a point :hmmm: Edit: ANy news about the deleted data from the pilot's home simulator? I guess FBI is still working on it .... But I don't see any specific motive at this point for this pilot to be involved. He was rich, with Malaysian for so long, a grand dad, had a daughter studying in Aus, in a job that he loved doing (to fly), and smart. From what I read about him, he appeared like a reasonable person. If he wanted to commit suicide or claim insurance for his family, he probably would have figured out a better way to do it than kill over 200 people for it .... However, if he was involved with extremists or a part of a terrorist cell or under some kind of a blackmail/threat, it is hard to say at this point.

zen Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 i don't recall if I had to go through repeat passport check at stop-over when I had booked my ticket through onward journey. Whenever I travelled to/from US I always took connecting flight. usually you are given all boarding passes at first boarding point itself. At many airports, people have to go through security/customs and their passports are checked as well I don't understand why as a transit passenger you still have to pass through immigration and customs. I can understand one security check before you board the plane but 3? That is just ridiculous and this adds to the stress level of catching your connecting flight to your final destination. And to top it all off they charge you $20 per head to transport you from one gate to the next. What a rip-off this airport is. Just returned from a trip from HKG to CDG via PEK. Probably one of the worst airports I've been to. I was on a transfer flight and was not leaving the airport, just going from gate to gate, yet I need to get my passport stamped and go through security again. I proceed through customs. I pass through the scanner fine without it going off, but was still stopped and checked. Inside the airport, the air-conditioning is so weak that the whole airport is so stuffy. On my flight to Paris we got onto the plane fine and it left the gate as scheduled then we had to wait an hour next to the runway while the plane waited for clearance from the ATC. On the return flight to HKG again we got on the flight fine, but then "apparently" due to weather we were delayed 4 hours. We did not get to deplane so passengers just sat inside a small stuffy plane with little news on when we can depart. 4 hours passes then captain gives us good news that we leave. Then we once again move out to runway and wait here for at least another hour! I will never book another connecting flight at this airport again. Passed through on YVR-PEK-SIN Air China flights. This place is huge, dreary, inefficient, and wreathed in a toxic smog. Had a 3-hour connection window which was almost not enough. As an international transit passenger I had to queue for a passport check and transit visa, then I got dumped into the general security screening, which was chaos. This happened on the way back, too. Both flights out of PEK were loaded using buses out to the tarmac. This when several terminal gates were available. So a big plane loaded via one stairway in the cold and smog. Not nice, and unacceptable for a big newish airport and its national carrier. Even the Air China lounge, to which I managed to get access on a 6-hour layover another time, is dreary and makeshift. Avoid this place. I chose to fly Air China outbound from Singapore to London Heathrow and then LHR to Bangkok. What a disgrace of an airport to a country such as China. Terminal 3 is a modern building but transiting here is a nightmare at the best of times. Immigration staff stamp transit passengers' passports even if they're not entering China yet when I got off my flight from LHR, a large Boeing 777-300ER, at least another large aircraft arrived at the same time containing many transit passengers. Despite there being at least 400 passengers, only TWO immigration counters were open. Luckily I didn't have a 1 hour connection time and wasn't one of the last passengers. Worse still there was no queue guidance systems such as 'snake' lines that have rapidly improved the situation at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. On top of that facilities aren't great and sign-posting for facilities like money changers are poor at the best of times. Also on my flight from SIN to LHR via PEK, I had a 6 hour transit so I paid for lounge access but on the whole it was a waste of money with no western food save for tasteless sandwiches and biscuits. To sum up, China's government really needs to improve this airport and make it more foreigner friendly if it is to improve its image. Until that day comes do not transit here unless you have a long connection time of over 2 hours and even then its only worthwhile if the cost-saving is substantial. zen Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Updates on the search MH370 debris could be above undersea volcanoes, geologist says According to an Australian marine geologist, debris from the aircraft could be lying over a massive undersea volcanic mountain range at a part of the ocean's wildest waters — unreachable even by many high-tech sea equipment. Also for the relatives of those on board: The airline offered compensation of about $5,500 for each passenger lost, but that did not appease protesters, who marched through the centre of the city to make their feelings known. vvvslaxman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I read on NBC compensation varies from country to country. Since US has strong legal system they are likely to get as high as million dollar as compensation.
Desi Cartman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 All connecting flights require a security check before boarding.

Raghav_12 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 scary thought to me is what if they were still alive when they went down in that ocean... Not additionally scary if you think it would have felt the same if they went down in calm sea of just 100 m depth or in this sea. Human wouldn't feel difference beyond a threshold.
vvvslaxman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 scary thought to me is what if they were still alive when they went down in that ocean... Most probably they were alive. Your dear ones may not even get to see your body. I feel for all those who lost their dear ones in the crash. It beyond description.
velu Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 scary thought to me is what if they were still alive when they went down in that ocean... the flight was on the air for hours before crashing after it took the turn .. nothing more scarier than that :nervous:
