I am kidding you guys. Although the fact that he hung on after WC and tarnished his legacy a bit, Tendulkar is the best batsman to watch in my book. Kallis and Sanga may have the better average, but they are not in the class of SRT. Still I think SRT did not live up to his true potential, but he is best modern batsman that I have seen, especially in his prime.

You sure? 1)As per Richie Beneaud, who is considered to be one of the most learned cricket personalities alive today, Sachin is only next to Bradman. 2)Hanif Mohammed called Sachin the greatest ever after his retirement, better than even Don. I would suggest you check the youtube video on this.

I realize that Kallis offers better utility' date=' but I see his bowling more as supportive to the main bowlers. I doubt that many would pick Kallis purely as a bowler.

While it is true that he is a support bowler, he is an Excellent support bowler. And that excellence makes the difference. Especially in his first 10 years, when he had good pace he was more than a handful bowler who regularly picked wickets at important moments.

The number of wkts that he has picked reflects that. As an overall package, he is pretty solid. In fact, teams such as Ind could benefit from players like him as it allows them to play 5 bowlers (including the all-rounder) However, from a batting PoV, there were more effective and attractive batsmen (admittedly arrived through an exercise that is like trying to find minute faults). Talking about the last generation, for the most part , it is usually been Lara or Tendulkar (even when the likes of Kallis were delivering). If Tendulkar hadn't changed his approach in the 2000s (may be he was inspired by Dravid's success), he would have put an even greater mark.
