Doesn't make it right. Was a burden on the team and there is no such thing as honorable MP. He has the same responsibilities as any other Rajya Sabha MP and has done nothing in his role.

+1 Nothing right about his retirement, I'm not sure if even Sachin was happy as well with how things ended, dragged on for 2 years and then went out facing an opposition which surrendered so meekly instead of the SA tour which was supposed to be his farewell.

But none of that matter post retirement. He made a error of judgement of dragging one extra year as he felt he could still help the team Of course you will complete ignore the fact the time he spent with Kohli, Pujara, etc, in the middle and net sessions, have been invaluable for the their progress (and they themselves have said this multiple times) and helped them grow as players and succeed on international stage. In the end, people remember him as a bahrat ratna, MP and player of the decade. They remember him fondly.

TBF he blocked the way for the youngsters like rahane , pujara , rohit ... ( n i m not blaming only himself ) .. and a good batsmen != good mentor .. uv was with him for eternity and gambo was struggling for years .. your generosity to credit sachin for every thing is slightly disturbing and mildly annoying at times if i need to put it softly :asleep:

Why get so insecure, no one is taking away the legend or ATG status away from him. Doesn't make him free from any kind of criticism though. As for the argument that his stay helped Kohli, Pujara, well what about Rohit? In fact he spent more time with the Master and 2 other legends, he's still struggling to find consistency. Tendulkar should've retired after Aus tour. 200th test and 100th century will not be remembered with great fondness unlike most of his other records.

If only training and advice helped everyone, then you and I would also be playing international cricket. There is a reason none of our bowlers, no matter how talented, made the cut as a great bowler in international cricket. And there is a reason why, our batsmen, till now, have made very smooth transitions to international cricket whereas most other countries' batsmen don't. That's something to chew on BTW, the 200th test retirement was a BCCI idea, not Sachin's. They wanted it to milk it for all it was worth as a game in India, to get maximum profit

Don't profess your aptitude for opposing anything that's accepted by majority, just to stand out and seem unique. Go study the Constitution to understand difference between a nominated MP and a regular one.

I am not crediting, him, Pujara and Kohli are. Batsmen with potential to learn and improve are very, very few in the world. Gambhir and UV are no where near Pujara or Kohli's class (though they are great touch players and big hitters). Plus they did play great with him at the other side once, they have just lost form. You can learn a lot from a master but once your form goes, nothing much anyone can do And the time spent with him at the other end are invaluable for any upcoming cricketers. No one else in the future is going to get the same chance.

Maybe for you. For millions of fans across the world, who had tears in their eyes, it felt he had actually left early. People like you, who are so eager to suck every bit of entertainment and results out of a player, and at the same time, do not have the patience to allow him two bad years in 21, are like leeches who can only enjoy but act like spoilt brats when asked for patience because someone is having a couple of bad years. Not all of us has short term memory or are spoilt, ungrateful brats who forget 21 years because someone had a bad couple of years after an awesome year. If we all had the same standards you expect, you will not pass a single exam, or get a single promotion at work

There are 12 posts in Rajya Sabha which are reserved for people who excel in arts, science, sports, etc. These are not affiliated to any party. These 12 posts are nominated by the President of India. This is what I meant by being an honourable MP And what do you mean, has done nothing in the role? From crusading and enabling toilets for everyone in his locality, to providing means of living and education for labourers, to adopting 200 children of homeless for food and education, he has done all of these. He might not have spent the Rajya Sabha budget, instead spending his own money, but he has done all these after becoming a MP

Err he was not a burden to the team in the sense Ponting was a burden to his team or any other player who stay long past justifying their selection to the team. It must be noted that Tendulkar, despite having a poor 2011,2012 and 2013, did justify his selection in the team for most of that part. In the series in Australia & England, Sachin was amongst the top 3 run-getters for our side, which for a specialist bat, is justifying his selection in the team. He was in good form but failed to score runs in the series vs New Zealand and started to look out of sorts only against England. Two series after, he called it quits, failing to look world-class. That is by no strech fo imagination, being a burden for the team or staying too long.
