He made his debut playing at #6 in SA (scored a 100 on that tour iirc). Considering how strong the batting was at that time - Dravid, Ten, Lax and Gang, he shifted to opening .... And yes, he is one of the greatest openers. If you see his batting at his peak, he redefined batting at the top with the combination of high avg and SR. I am sure you are aware of his Bradmanesque performances against Pak A while ago, Veeru had hinted that he wants to go back to the middle order, play at #4 - once the slots opens up with the retirement of Sachin. The #4 position was Sachin's so it is not surprising that he never batted at that position in tests, and when he had turned himself in to a successful opener

zen Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 He would be perfect at number 5 for you guys in test matches Yeah, but first he needs to strike some form, and probably make a few changes to his game as well as his reflexes are not as good as they once were (which compensated for his unusual technique). We have seen with so many aggressive batsmen including Richards that once the reflexes slow down, they are not that effective. Sehwag's role model Tendulkar changed his game too in the later half of his career.

Never played like this when his selection could have been done in the Indian team, but when it comes to IPL, he leaves no stones unturned :cantstop:

He's on 95 at lunch in the MCC v Durham county season opener at Abu Dhabi. And he's pulled off an ‪#‎ OscarSelfie‬at lunch with his team-mates. Just his game fell to pieces. In IPL you get to face some sorry ass bowlers you can whack all over. But even there i don't think he had great outing last year.
