Key Indian Players

Cheteshwar Pujara

pujara-small.jpg

It's ironic that Cheteshwar Pujara has played only 24 IPL games over four seasons. And only two ODIs for India, despite his impressive run in Tests. Pujara has long been regarded as a Test specialist, and though he figured in the ODI squad for the Asia Cup, he didn't get a game. Pujara, who was with Royal Challengers Bangalore last season, was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 1.9 crore ($316,000). He has a T20 strike rate of 103 and an average of just under 20, for a top-order player. His List A numbers are even more striking - an average of 55.03 in 70 games with nine hundreds and 20 fifties. Last IPL, he played four matches, with a highest of 51. Pujara may make the starting XI for Kings XI this season, in the top three. He is working on his bowling to boost his limited-overs CV. If he aims to make it to India's 50-over World Cup squad early next year, this IPL gives him an opportunity to seal a berth in India's ODI squad going forward.

Virender Sehwag

In the fifth edition of the IPL, he made the record of being the only batsman to score five consecutive half centuries in T20s. Virender Sehwag is often noted for his extremely attacking style of batting, and in 2005 he was described by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack as the “most exciting opener in the worldâ€. Sehwag’s aggressive batting has found success at the top of the batting order. He holds the record for the fastest triple century in Test Cricket. In March 2009, Sehwag smashed the fastest century ever scored by an Indian in ODI cricket, from 60 balls. He is one of the three Indian Players to have scored a double hundred in ODI cricket. His score of 219, remains the highest in ODI cricket.

Wriddhiman Saha

saha-small.jpg

A nimble and agile wicketkeeper who has shown that his correct approach with the bat does not limit him from scoring freely in the shorter versions of the game, Wriddhiman Saha is Bengal’s brightest hope since Sourav Ganguly retired from international cricket. Wriddhiman Saha’s century on his Ranji debut was instrumental in propelling him to the Indian T20 league stage. A few fine performances for India A and a decent Ranji Season, later helped Saha earn his maiden Test call-up as the team’s reserve wicket keeper.

Gurkeerat Singh Mann

Popularly known as Gurkeerat ‘Super’ Mann, for his spectacular catch to dismiss Ross Taylor in IPL 6, he has made quite the splash with the few opportunities he’s got so far. Gurkeerat Mann Singh is a young batsman from Faridkot in Punjab. He made his limited-overs debut for Punjab in 2012 and impressed everyone by scoring 236 runs in his first five matches. This included a well-made century and a half-century. Inducted in the KXIP squad in IPL 2012, the batsman pulled off a thrilling last-ball victory against Deccan Chargers. 156296.jpg
