Imran Khan, the greatest Pakistani captain who led to the title win in 1992. MSD is a multi trophy winner Indian skipper. Whom you rate as the best skipper amongst these two to have emerged from Sub continent?

Imran's achievements in ODIs are marginal inspite of having a great team. Dhoni, on the other hand is an average test batsman and a top match winning ODI batsman. Dhoni has led India to some of its highest peaks and lowest troughs in its history. He took India to number one in tests and was also its captain during the historic white washes. Dhoni's ODI accomplishments are legendary, and he did this inspite of not having the best bowling resources. So, Imran for tests, Dhoni for ODIs - overall Imran, because tests are the real deal.

Good post. Imran also captain us to our first series win in England and India in 1987 and he was man of the series both times. Imran couldnt win against windies in tests. West Indies never beat Pakistan when Imran Khan was our captain. We imported neutral Indian umpires for one of our home series against West Indies so there is no complain of biased home umpiring and they still could not beat us. It was biased West Indies umpires who saved them from losing their home series to Pakistan in 1988.

jonas10 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Imran won one thing in his life as captain 1992 world cup which is widely panned as the least deserving champions after needing so many miracles to progress including being downright awful all round robin and still qualifying. He tried forever to win as captain and finally won in 1992 after many attempts. What exactly are his successes as a Test Captain? Whereas Dhoni has won everything in limited overs on his debut, captained the #1 test team.

Pakistan despite who leades be it is Imran or Akhtar or Afridi it is all about individual brilliance. You could call Imran a leader who managed to get everyone toe his line. Dhoni is somewhat in between.

People often forget Imran took over an average side and when he left he had arguably left our best ever side that went on to win twice in Eng, NZ. Drew in SA and won two tests in India 99. That was Imran factor lasting a generation. MSD took over a team on the up that had won in Eng drew in Aus among other good results. Team had three ATG batsmen at their peak. Now with a newish team we will see true MSD legacy. If he leaves a team on the rise fine but so far he has lived off team left by Dravid and Kumble. To me this year will define MSD the test captain. In the end you go by the silverware you collect and Dhoni has won a lot. In my opinion Dhoni is a dumb sheet but still miles ahead of Imran.

Waqar only played handful of tests under Imran. On batting front only javed was world class with Salim Malik who was ok. Not a single world class opener. He was unlucky to leave when we had Wasim hitting his peak. Waqar to go on 5 years of class fast bowling. A good opening pair and emergence of Inzi coincided with Imran retiring. MS had Sachin VVS and Dravid on their peak. He had inherited arguably the best Indian pacer in Zaheer hitting his peak. Viru a freak opener at his peak. Bhaji at his peak.
