Meh.....Sangakkara has better things to do' date='[b'] like playing match winning knocks in global tournament finals, which Sachin couldn't do. He's not a stats maniac.
yeah...and thats the reason y you lost 4 finals in the past :hysterical: :hysterical: Gambhir played more match-winning knocks than sanga in the WC finals :giggle::giggle:

Sanga is a great great player no doubt of it' date=' to call him HTB or FTB is ridiculous.[/quote'] No, its not at all ridiculous. Stats and hip don't lie. 5-6 tons overseas out of 35 is quiet an achievement for an HTB.

He is not a ftb like mahela but not a great too.

he hardly played overseas( Eng, Aus) in long series mostly it was just one or two tests in a series, which are over before you blink , it is very hard to make an assessment of any player like that. His overall away average is fine and he has scored 14 hundreds away from home vs 21 @home.

With the exception of SRT,Ponting,Lara and to some extent Gavaskar, most top run getters were players who were kind of those silent and boring run machines with no flair who were not even the best batsmen in their own team. Foreg; Kallis was consistent but at different times he was the 2nd best batsman in his team Same for Boycott and Alan Border You might say Gavaskar was boring too but the way he handled the WI and Aussie quicks in a mediocre team was entertainment in itself. Likesof Sanga,Kallis(maybe as an A.R but not purely as a batsman),Border and Boycott will not even make the top 10 lists of great batsman of all time despite their stats

Away from home is basically in the SC. And he has played enough games overseas to judge a player with an avg. of 56+.

Since when you need to avg 50 in England to be called as great batsman and who wrote that rule. Tendulkar scored just one hundred in Pakistan and none in zim does it make him lesser player. Sanga is ATG who just does not have good stats in England or some other place as his team plays there sporadically, it happens but that does not make him any lesser player. Normal or below par players don't average 58 in test cricket after 122 tests.

Where did I call him a below par player? He is an all time great player in 'Asia'. And neither did I say you need to have so and so average in England to be considered a modern great. Averages 40 overseas (Aus, Eng, WI, NZ & SA) with only 5 tons to his name out of a whooping 35 in total. 63+ in the sub continent with a 27 freaking centuries. And for a guy with a bucket full of double hundreds, he is got none outside Asia. Now that there is an Asian giant and cannot be compared with the other greats like a Sachin, Dravid or Laxman whose scored runs all around the world. He is an ordinary batsman outside Asia. Mahela's in even worse!

Sanga played 122 tests and out of which he has played 90 tests in Asia, so stats will be dominated by Asian conditions. He has done very well in Australia and NZ, if you add one big hundred each in England and SA which he is fully capable off of scoring next time he plays there his stats will become great as sample size is too small. As batsman he has no perceived weakness and has great technique and temperament. It is his bad luck he plays for small team, if he had played for any big teams he would have been portrayed at least as greatest left hand batsman to have ever played the game along with Sobers.

Sanga has scored 6 tons in 32 Tests outside SC , Laxman has scored 8 tons in 61 Tests outside SC. VVS is an ever bigger FTB if Sanga is one.
Sanga is a #3 bat. There is a massive difference in both. Compare Dravid with Sanga and see the difference. He has 13 tons and averages over 53 compared to the HTB.

dravid is the best test batsman from the subcontinent in past 30 years. Not fair on sangakkara.

Why concentrating on 100s alone..? I'd rate Dravid's twin 50s at the WI minefiled in 2006 that helped to win the game for India much higher than some of his oversease 100s.
