****Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2014 Thread***

20 years back the BJP contested 116 seats the sena contested 169. The BJP was offered 120 and sena 151 in 2014. other allies IE the sena was making way for the smaller allies in the mahayuti and not the BJP. The difference in seat contested was 53 in 1995 and it was 31 in 2014. Where is the respect? The sena i dont think will be part of the NDA for much longer. They are better off as an opposition
You still love twisting and spinning things. SS were too arrogant and left no room for negotiation. That's the simple fact, they were adamant on many things such as seats, CM post. And SS is no position to lecture about respect, seeing their abuses and indecent words against Modi and BJP, they should now just keep quiet. Their ego got too big and they have broken the cadre relationship. Every single fault lies with SS and it' up to them to fix/patch up. The onus is on SS, not BJP.

and quite frankly if i was the SAD, i will start preparing to fight elections alone. Amit shah does not respect "big brother" partners. Dont make the mistake the sena made and start preparing from the get go.
And one wonders why SS became so arrogant. They aren't "big brother", and should stop taking other parties for granted. Even, if SS think of themselves so highly, they should have been flexible to requests of alliance partners. Instead, they left no room for negotiation and back stabbed all the partners. New leadership of SS led by uddhav become very opportunistic. BJP' decision seems very justified if exit polls are correct. SS needs to manage their ego and give respect to other parties and cadre. And, BJP showed they have pan-Maharashtra appeal which even SS doesn't seem to have.

What utter tosh.BJP and SS combine did better in the LS elections held simuntaneously and ABV became the PM again. If any thing SS mismanaged Maharashtra and hence the public chose to throw them out of govt.,but they voted for them in the LS because they knew it was BJP/ABV who will lead that govt. SS is never going to come into the govt. without BJP.They need BJP more and Shah and Modi wont tolerate Thackrey's garbage. Since 1999 there have never been a huge difference in strike rate of BJP and SS in Maharashtra. So about time SS realised that they cant keep on harping the same tune.BJP is was on equal footing of SS may be higher and hence SS was in no position to demand the CM seat and such large no. of seats.
thats cause the sena always contested the hard seats in western maharashtra. Secondly they always fought in politically volatile mumbai. Ie they were the ones taking all the risk. The BJP got the more secure seats. In 1999 Gadkari was specially in charge of Viderbha where the sena was weak. Guess who won most seats there.... In was the BJP who were responsible for the 1999 loss. If you look at the % per seat the BJP let the side down.

not really The agreement between the two was always whoever won more seats got the CM post. If both are equal then 2.5 2.5. This was he 1990 agreement. The shiv sena was not arrogant. They fight their seats in mumbai. A highly volatile place. Hence they need extra seats as a buffer. ITs exactly the same reason the congress refused to give the ncp extra seats. The congress are taking all the risk in mumbai. Amit shah wanted more seats for the BJP and he also wanted more seats in safer marathwada at the expense of the Sena. That my friend is just plain greedy. Congress, JMM and RJD form ‘anti-BJP’ Mahagathbandhan http://www.avenuemail.in/ranchi/congress-jmm-rjd-form-anti-bjp-mahagathbandhan/62007/ As you can see above. Already people are combining to take on the BJP. These guys will have close to 35-40% of the vote. A wise man would have the sena by their side and permanently eliminate the ncp and congress. Then he would take on the sena. The BJP will have their 5 years of power. Will they be in power for a generation in the state? I doubt it. Either the NCP-Congess will combine or the Sena-NCP will combine. These combinations will have a polling % of 30 and above.

You seem very bitter with BJP gaining grounds in Maharashtra...dats a surprise... This is gonna stink for a long time to come because Modi has already shown a lot of respect to Bal Thackeray and Sena and unforunately Uddhav in his ego trip could not reciprocate...no matter how u put it...BMC this that...I feel Modi and BJP would have done a splendid job if they win the Assembly on their own and Sena even with being in opposition would come out as sour loser...they should have continued in the NDA alliance for better Maharashtra & India...
Its not a question of being bitter. Its about long term planning. As i have posted 4 parties have already come together in Jharkhand today. In an Indian full of secular parties the BJP still do need their friends. Remember they came to power woth 31% of the vote. So there exist combinations which can topple them. I am for the BJP 100%. But at the same time you need to look beyond this chest thumping. You talk about the sena. The only thing holding them back from lauching an all out assault (politically) for Belgaum in Karnataka was the BJP. So what happens now when the Shiv sena starts holding major rallies for these marathi speaking districts of northern karnataka? What does the BJP maharashtra do about it? What does the BJP in Karnataka do about it? Ditto the Gujarati city of Baroda. There is a significant marathi population there. Ditto Goa. You need to think these things through. Like it or not the sena have increased their voting % and their seat count based on all major polls. In the face of the modi wave. Very rarely has this been done. They are not going away.

and i say this for the final time Now is the time to eliminate the congress (politically) and many other secular parties. Concentrate on that. Then you can turn on parties like the sena for growth. Think long term. Think 50 years The BJP in its current state cannot take on everybody and win. Alliances will form to take them on. Let me clarify i do have a soft corner for the sena. But i am BJP 100%. However this level of growth is based on a drug called narendra modi which IMO cannot be sustained. Every wave rises and falls. You need a fall back when that fall happens. Make peace with the sena for now. Offer them govenerships and some token junior ministers. Have them on your side pissing out of the tent than within it.

You still intend to spin things. There was an agreement like you mentioned on who got more seats will be CM. But your SS, paid no respect to that agreement and were "adamant" on Uddhav as CM beforehand. Then, remember today it is a Mahayuti alliance, consisting of some other parties also. So of course, those parties needed to be accommodated to decent number of seats but SS again paid no respect to those "smaller" partners. They left no room for negotiation and with fixed +150 seats demand. BJP wanted to rethink and allocate those seats which both SS/BJP never won in 25 years. But SS didn't care at all as they were struck with their fixed demands. And even after the break-up, how can you justify the indecent attacks by Uddhav/SS on Modi/BJP? BJP don't have any problems with SS, even today they haven't questioned them both locally or on the alliance at center. It's really up to Sena to fix and correct all the damage they created. Next, anti-BJP front aren't a new thing, and it failed miserably in LS. Also do remember there is a Congress-mukt front as well. It's up to SS to choose between both sides.

^ My friends in pune say that, most people hate Shiv Sena as much as Congress. It's possible that this split might do good for BJP. I may be wrong. If BJP wins this election, is it the first time they win an election? I never saw a non-congress party in Maharastra. imo, everything cannot be fixed in a single election.

Please correct firstly yourself, Congress and many sickular parties or parties who fool public under the burqa of secularism. These questions are not only for BJP to think about. Its also for regional parties like SS to answer. What are they fighting against? BJP or Congress? This MH election, they completely messed it due to their ego.

Sena already talking about reconcilation.Broken hearts /No more bitterness etc etc.Seems.Thackrey realised that he has no bargaining position left. But BJP must look at this with a view point that these 3 opposition parties are poles apart and wont ever be able to a effective opposition.Maha can be the next UP where 3 major parties exist at a time.

Please dont make the mistake of polling all their votes percentages from the previous years to say they will get this much vote.Any alliance has it cons.People JMM and congress and RJD have fought elections together before also. Please dont make the mistake of taking the bypolls in Bihar as an indication. No big BJP leader campaigned in Bihar. There is a hell lot of difference when Modi Shah and company campaign. BJP must now try to make itself big irrespective of an alliance. They have done so in other states now need to do the same in Maharashtra as well. They must be in a position to dictate terms to Sena and tell them that BJP can win power on its own and hence the alliance must be on their terms.

On the bolded text: Wrong. SS actually made room for the smaller parties by giving up their share of the seats. BJP seats were left as-is. However, what BJP did by breaking up the alliance is also right (if you consider that the exits polls are right). Every party aspires to form a government on its own and it should. BJP believes it is vastly more popular than SS in the state and can get more seats than SS. Hence, the alliance was called off, which is absolutely the right thing to do however long the alliance has been in place. Remember that alliances are not like marriages that should last forever. It is only an "arrangement" that helps political parties succeed in our "first past the post system". However, SS cannot be faulted either. They stuck to the age old formula of granting more seats to BJP for LS elections and were now only expecting BJP to reciprocate. They even gave up seats for the smaller parties. They can be hardly faulted for not giving up even more seats. Overall, this kind of election was indeed needed. All parties needed to test their real strength in the state. It has been unknown for a long time now since both the alliances have been just sticking to a formula. I personally feel it is good for the electorate to have such a choice and good for all parties to know their real footing.

I agree with you on lot of points, but IMO as someone said the onus currently is on Sena to make amicable relations with BJP and other NDA allies. There are some huge things to still take care of in our country. I agree BJP gains everywhere are mostly due to Modi wave and maybe few years down the line when he wont be around BJP as a whole might go down but now is the time to continue and keep the amicable relations. Modi's gesture about not saying a word against Sena was a masterstroke which Uddhav should have reciprocated. Now it looks like Sena would go to any extent just to stop Modi and do all kinds of *****y things like all sickular parties have been doing. IMO that would be a huge stepback for Sena. Times have changed. They should have thought more progressively about what exactly they are fighting for. Personally I do like Sena a bit for Mumbai and some other regions around it, but Sena being a Pan-India Marathi party is just a stupid idea. It will become just another sickular party who will continue creating trouble across India trying to increase their base and gain nothing but loss. And I like your chest thumping/optimism about Sena is the real winner in this and all lol but Maharashtra might be just going out of the hands of all Congress,NCP, and all Senas soon for good....Times have indeed change
